On the phone yesterday I told a friend how things are not always possible and you cannot jump off the roof and not hit the pavement and you cannot put your torso on backward and you cannot be forgiven for a petty mistake you made months ago because most people don't care what you have to say

it was raining today and we thought we could drive the car through the flooded road and over the bridge we thought we'd still be safe because we could still see the yellow line dotting the middle of the curved road and then we rode through it and i felt the water come through the doors soaking my feet i felt the car lift and travel through the flood and i heard the engine still revving and it made me think of when i was thirteen and i was lying on the railroad tracks behind my bedroom window hiding from everything that was alive and could not be explained and i passed through this afternoon thinking that there's nothing quite like a body on the tracks.
