I only read Gone with the Wind about 5 years ago, despite hearig about it long before then. I remember thinking at the time that for a woman of her time, Scarlet's behaviour was, I suppose "independent" compared to the women around her, but essentially I came to the same conclusion that you mention above.
I haven't read Lolita yet, though I think I have heard the name before.
My opinion is that Cuddy has been letting House get the upper hand since the second half of season 3 and onwards from there. I am most greatly annoyed by her representation as a supposed "strong female", because I have seen her as anything but for a long while

That's pretty much my opinion actually. I said earlier I could/can see why she has a "hot" body, but honestly, giving her revealing clothing for her post and having her shove her breasts and ass at House's face all the time, and then having House objectify her sexually, is not the way to show someone is "hot". In fact, this is exactly what turns me off.
I can see what you mean. Her behaviour is contradictory to me, and while she complains about being objectified by House all the time, my personal opinion is that Cuddy subconsciously enjoys the attention.
I don't mind Cuddy's clothes that much. She has wore them from the start and it didn't bother me on the early seasons. It's her attitude that has changed since season 4 and makes me cringe everytime she has a scene with House

Cuddy's character I liked seasons 1 through 3. Well, through half of three or so. Towards the beginning, when we heard those tidbits about how she was only one of three female department heads, and also the youngest of those three, I thought to myself, "Kickass. :)"
My favourite scene with Cuddy, was actually the take-no-shit "Your tie is becoming a Petri Dish [...] I warned you. *SNIP!*" scene back during Maternity in season 1 when she cut off the tie of the guy who was swabbing.
It might be a whole English/British thing, or it could just be me - I'm not certain. Might even be a combination of both, but her way of dressing does bother me. It was tolerable so long as she demanded the respect she deserved as Dean, and kept a tight grip on her reigns of authority. It wasn't even that bad during the first two seasons or so. Tweed jackets and stuff ;) <3
