The problem with apathy is the lack of participation. The real question is how long will it be before reVolution?

I think this is part of the problem with the status quo of a 'two-party' system... they rig the dice to compete with the opposing party rather than providing quality candidates, and so elite assholes with name familiarity get pushed to the top of the running in the party primaries. Also, considering the public's fascination with the wealthy political types (like the Kennedys, Bushes, and Forbes) those families kind of take on the role of a sort of de facto aristocracy... your comparison to a monarchy hits the nail on the head.

Unfortunately, at least in a monarchy there is a sort of honesty which our current system lacks.
