LRRTM1 & bicameral mind theory

It seems that there is more data that may be taken as evidence for Julian Jaynes's bicameral mind theory. The gene LRRTM1, which increases the odds of a person being left-handed, is also apparently linked to increased odds of schizophrenia -- exactly as would be predicted by Jaynes's theory ( Read more... )

interesting. Madelyn is left-handed. She's emotional, but I think that has more to do with her being the middle child than schizophrenia. lol.

Yeah, it is nothing to worry about certainly. My dad is a southpaw too, and he has definitely never had any schizophrenic episodes... that is fortunately rather rare.

However, it is worth noting that left-handers may exhibit more visual-oriented learning/thinking, like this article talks about:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Left-handed#Possible_effects_in_humans_on_thinking

So, if Madelyn shows any latent artistic talent, be sure to encourage that... she might have ace-in-the-hole as compared to us righties.

thats even more interesting, because its very much like her. Her teacher last year at her parent-teacher conference went on and on about how artistic she was. How she was a fast learner, but how she just blew other kids away when it came to artsy type stuff. And, of course, there was the famous chocolate volcano incident... I'll tell you more if you care to hear it. But lets just say the child is INCREDIBLY creative!
Thanks for that reading, it might actually be very useful to know that about lefties in the future!
