mercedes and i had a couple of similar incidents until i figured out that she was cramming herself through the slightly over-sized gap between the base of the door and the linoleum. at first i just couldn't believe it until i actually witnessed it with my own two eyes.
This one time Josh locked BC in the upstairs bathroom at the HoD along with her kittens. And I do mean locked -- there was a deadbolt on the door.
A while later, we found her downstairs. Someone took her back up and put her into the bathroom.
A second time, she was found wandering around outside the bathroom!!
Turns out she was jumping to the top of the shower stall (and you remember how tall that was!), then across the large gap from the shower stall to the closed-off window sill above the door, then through a hole in the plastic covering above the door that we didn't know was there, then down about 8 feet to the hard floor of the landing.

I just checked the gap beneath the door, I can *barely* get half my hand under it.
My current alternate hypothesis involves cat-telepathy rewriting my memories (for the lulz, of course.)
...And my alternate, alternate hypothesis implicates IKEA garden gnome servitors involved in a vast global conspiracy.

yeah, at about 3am you saw her slide off the bed, taking the covers with her, and then she phase-shifted into the kitchen - BAMF!!!

and no, gnomo was decapitated, I assume by our neighbor's little girl (who had been parking her bike next to him... and possibly on top of him)
I am going to leave his corpse there as a testament to their shameful, unapologetic gnomocide!
