Thank you the_nita for reminding me - today marks the 90th year since the Halifax Explosion. Let's hope this isn't portentous of the second of two exams I write today.

Oh shit, it's also 18 years since the Ecole Polytechnique massacre. Yikes. Bad day all around.

I stood at the Halifax harbor and I've been to their museum yet I still can't even begin to imagine what that must have been like on Dec 6 1917...

CBC had an inteview with a man who's 103 (he was 13 and in Halifax the day of) this morning. I think it was on Sounds Like Canada. You might want to check their podcasts - he was describing the sights, sounds, smells - it is pretty rough stuff when you realise he's talking about having remembered these things through 90 years.
