Hey, community! Looks like Berserk is on hiatus again til September 25th. But it's well worth the wait since these last few chapters have been one hell of a ride.
I have no doubt that whatever conjecture I come up with, Miura will have something far more epic in store.
Personally, it feels like the previous 33 (or so) volumes have all been in a way leading up to this, a new birth of a new world. Griffith's ambitions are now on a global scale, though yet the main conflict of the story (Guts vs Griffith) is still there. Now it's just on a bigger scale. There will probably be those who adore the new world (Rosine would have been happy, I'm sure) and those who fear it. Will Guts eventually become a leader or icon of a world of order and reality, with Griffith one of epic fantasy? Whom will they consider the hero and who the villain?
From how I see it, Guts has been seen as an ominous, evil character to the public eye while Griffith has been set up to be the savior of the new world. Miura is doing a good job with playing Guts as the Misunderstood Hero to Griffith's Dark Messiah. Guts might get an increase of members for his team, but it's still up in the air.
I think Miura said that the series was 66%-70% percent done? As much as Berserk seems to be a dark series, there are definitely some positive stuff going on in here.
I've read that one of Miura's inspirations is Guin Saga which has over 100 volumes to date. That would put Berserk at closer to 30%, but the way the story is progressing 70% or so sounds about right. (That still gives us 15 volumes, bringing the total up to around 50, which is a pretty epic saga by any standards.)
Actually, I've been kind of worried that Miura was just blowing up the whole world so he could set aside Berserk and work on other stuff he has more motivation in. Sort of like an, "oh screw it" type thing.
Although reading what saber_rider said sort of put into perspective what was going on, because I was really not getting it. The pacing is a bit strange and I suppose it would have been clearer if there was more to follow up. But there isn't yet.
Well, from what I've heard, Miura has been playing a game called IdolMaster and watching stuff on NicoNico Video. I don't really know myself if this has been holding back his work productivity.
I remember in an interview he said that Berserk's pacing was going to become something like of an "illustration book" (hence the current chapter), but he said that things will slowly return to normal soon.
Yes, I've heard that as well, but then I also heard from someone else that it was a huge exaggeration taken to ridiculous lengths, so you know... I have no idea.
I really would like to know what the hell keeps taking priority over such an amazing project.
What is true, is that Miura also does- and displays more interest in- becoming more of a shoujo artist. o_o And those projects might be taking more priority, I guess.
What would an epic metaphysical anime/manga series be unless you blowed up the world (or at least Tokyo) at some point? (-:
The nice thing about Berserk is that I can envision at least three or four different ways Miura could end it, and all of them seem equally believable AND, done the right way, equally satisfactory. There aren't many writers who can keep me guessing like that.
Oh, hey! How's it going? I'm a fan of your Abridged series. Continue to keep up the good work!
That's true. Most series you see nowadays seem to have no ending in site, but for Berserk, you know there are many ways that the series can be wrapped up. Personally, I would love it if Guts and his party gets a happy ending. They've been fighting for so long and they really do deserve one.
