D'awww! I loved this little fics. A nice change of pace from our usual fics about their romantic relationship (not that there's anything wrong with that sort of thing ^^), focusing on the beginning of their friendship. I think my favorite part of both fics was the bit where Sephiroth stops Hotaru and gets tonguetied trying to ask to spend time with her... very sweet. ^^ And you evoked Sephiroth's bitterness and Hotaru's sympathy very well in the first fic. ^^ I was intrigued to see you had Sephiroth recognizing Hotaru's attractiveness right off the bat... I've always imagined him as not recognizing his own response to her beauty at first (ie he doesn't think of her as attractive, but he finds her pleasing without quite knowing why). It's an interesting take on him... he seems slightly more self-aware when it comes to romance than how I usually have him, but that's kinda cool ( ... )

Yay! It makes my heart smile to know you liked them. I think that Sephiroth notices her strength and power first; it's what draws him to her. Then he notices her looks and the combination of those characteristics are what make her attractive to him. Her beauty is different from the ultra-glam Minako or stunningly, elegant Setsuna. She stands out to him; now he's not really thinking he's attracted to her just that she's attractive. She makes his current situation a little more tolerable. She's out of place, like him, in this "nuthouse" (in his opinion) that is Crystal Tokyo; she's the soldier of silence and destruction living contentedly in a utopia; that fact creates a sort of connection between them--he's intrigued by her and wants to know more ( ... )

I totally agree with him being drawn in by her strength and power; I admit that I usually have him not even registering her looks until far later in their association, but it's cool if you want to have it a bit earlier. In all other aspects, I agree totally with you ( ... )
