I-8 and U-1224. <3
TN: This title, ニホンノミカタ~ドイツカラキマシタ, is a parody of a single by comedic pop-group Yajima Beauty Salon, called ‘ニホンノミカタ~ネヴァダカラキマシタ’. The song is the story of the group - an American mother and her two daughters, who are in Japan in search of the girls’ father, who is Japanese. It’s a touristy song, parodying Americans with phrases like ‘where can I meet a samurai’ and ‘you can’t see kabuki in Kabuki-cho’.
Also - Since the manga-ka has apparently said that I-8 speaks in 2-chan, we have the English equivalent here, with 4-chan net-speak.
> U-boat san is so wonderful that I keep looking at the Japan and Germany's submarine military operations entry so. . .! Please give me U-bo… U-boat-san--
You felt such love for that 5cm scribble of a man I drew…?! I’m so moved, I’ll draw him for you.
I-8: Listen up, U-boat. In Japan, the code for ‘the enemy has found me’ is 'i r ded!' got it?
U-1224: Understood!
I-8: Also, ‘roger’ is ‘ok’ got it? At first glance, it’s like English, but it’s genuine Japanese, so don’t worry. lol
U-1224: Ok!
Sfx: tremble
I-8-chan doesn't seem to know what U-boat is exactly.
It’s well-known as a ‘U-boat’, but it’s really just a shortened version of the term ‘Unterseeboot,’ which means ‘submarine’ in German.
Actually, Japan received two U-boats. But the one that was personified, is "U1224", or otherwise known as "Ro-Number 501 Submarine" by the Japanese.
So, the truth of the matter is different from this manga. I-8's role was to send Japanese interns to Germany by becoming trainees on the U-boat when U-1224 was welcomed to Japan.
But after one year, the Japanese who had finished studying on the U-1224 boarded to return to Japan, though during the trip, an American destroyer sank it.
In this manga, they've returned safely to Japan and served the navy.
More like, this is the result of my wish for them to return to Japan safely. . .
Sometime, I’m going to try to draw these two in a serious scenario.
Sfx: sob, sob
U-1224: There’s no beer or porn books. I want to go home to Germany.

By the way, in Japan, his name was actually "Satsuki".
