DO NOT PUT GOT AND TVD IN THE SAME SENTENCE! YOU'LL JINX IT!!!

Now go wash your mouth out :)

(though, my most fave show of all time, Breaking Bad, has short seasons and notoriously long hiatuses, ie. over 12/14 months, so ten months seems quite reasonable to me for quality television!!)

AAHHH WHAT IS THIS TRAVESTY I HAVE COMMITTED D:

*never doing it again for fear of GoT becoming a complete flop and failing in every possible way, yes even when potential is handed to to it on a silver platter lol*

haha Breaking Bad is still on my "to watch" list, currently my brother is trying to make me watch The Wire as a trade-off for him watching GoT, but as critically acclaimed and undoubtedly awesome The Wire it is, it just doesn't seem like it would be my style?? I'm basically cheating and catching up The Borgias instead lol :$ /dishonorable person

Yeah, the Robb/Talisa & Cat storyline has honestly gone from inexplicable to annoying to I am legitimately pissed off every time Robb and Talisa are onscreen and actually made faces and dismissive noises during their marriage ceremony. It just undermined absolutely everything that worked about that storyline and amplified anything that didn't. The thing that bothered me most was that it took Jeyne - a specifically and particularly "girl" character, who is not a warrior or a strategist or an activist or anything of the sort - and troped her into Sassy Badass Girl (who is just like a boy but hot!). Which: UGH. First, yeah, we've covered on the representation of that type, both in media in general and on GoT, which has many really great and layered warrior woman types that cover a whole spectrum, with Brienne and Arya and Dany and the Sand Snakes and Cat. Second, I am so tired of girls not being allowed to be girls. And third, it made no narrative sense for the storyline. Robb would not look for a Talisa, in my opinion, and he very much ( ... )

ALL OF THIS TBH.

I am so tired of girls not being allowed to be girls.yeah, this is definitely one of the main reasons I'm having a difficult time with this alteration--like there's nothing wrong with girls being inclined towards things that are generally considered masculine (I ADORE Arya and Brienne to no end for numerous reasons) or scoffing at things that may be traditionally feminine (a la Talisa) if they're inclination lay elsewhere, BUT the problem is (like you said) it seems as if far too often the only way a female character can be "kick-ass" or valid is by denouncing anything traditionally feminine and just NO. As someone who played with barbies until grade 7 (lol I kid you not), loves make-up and clothing and hair, enjoys fictional romances to no end, abhors even the slightest discomfort, has no inclination what-so-ever towards sports and what have you, I'd like to see a female representation here and there that DOESN'T tell me how frivolous I am, you know ( ... )

EXACTLY. Shifting the paradigm on what girls should be doesn't do anything to break it, it just changes who fits inside it and who doesn't. I hate the constant reinforcement of the idea that you can only be worthwhile as a girl if you're as little like a "girl" as possible. Worst. So I love the characters who have "girl" qualities, who are reasonable, logical products of their environments, who cry sometimes and fall in love and can't beat up men twice their size. So it's bad enough to take that sort of character and make her a modern bullshit trope that doesn't even fit into the world they've created, and then to undermine Robb and Cat's story in the process...BLECH. I am displeased. And so help me, if Jon/Ygritte gets at all shafted next season so we can have more Robb/Talisa bullshit, I will BURN HBO TO THE GROUND ( ... )

There were some really dramatic changes this season, but I wasn't really fussed about a lot of them. Some of them ended up making the storyline a smidge more interesting (Jon, Dany). Robb's storyline is really the only one that I'm pressed about, not because I care about Robb per se but I do care about Catelyn and she has been negatively affected. Robb/Talisa is a hot mess.

Robb's storyline is really the only one that I'm pressed about.

SAME (y) I didn't really mind any of the changes and even welcomed some. They definitely made Jon's story-line far more interesting by beefing up Ygritte's role, and I appreciate them trying to give Dany more to do than, well, wander lol--also loved the Sansa/Shae (and TV!Shae in general) as well as the Arya/Tywin insertions, etc etc.

But the Robb/Talisa and Cat business I just can't :( everything about it was just off, and I really think that not having them learn of Bran and Rickon's "deaths" diminished the sense of desperation and urgency attached to the decisions Cat and Robb make (as well as the understanding they have for each other's less than tactful decisions).

lol you're luckier than I am because I care about both Robb and Cat (Robb was actually one of the characters I was most excited to see more of leaving season ), so it was sort of a double whammy of disappointment for me D:
