Rites of Passage are sorely lacking in our society. You can buy smokes, look at naked pics, vote and be drafted (for a young man). Whee!

From the kid's point of view, you can also tell your parents to suck it and move out with your friends :p

And then come back a month later broke and begging to sleep on the couch.

My dad hasn't gotten over the "Hey, I can rent out your room now" joke since I turned. More than a year ago.

Oh, we know he has thought about it. I think he realizes though that he lacks a few necessities to make that idea work:

1) Money
2) A job
3) A car
4) A driver license
5) Friends who would let him crash for free
6) Personal belongings (we've reminded him that everything is his room is ours, since we bought all of it)

Yeah, he won't be leaving for awhile. If we need to rent out his room in Lansing, we'll make him sleep in the "Michigan basement".
