Feb 25 2022 LFCC Spring Saturday. went soley to meet Jodie Whittaker at her first every UK convention.. oh i met her, but it wasnt a happy affair all round
...... don't worry i'm not going to bash Jodie, shes still a white (rose) queen, she was perfect even given the shite show she was surrounded by.
Its the organisation or lack there of that I have issue with.
The Good
I got to talk to Anna-Louise Ploughman about "Three Fries short" the Stargate Podcast some of my friends from Stargate Tiktok do weekly.
I got to meet Adrian Paul and have a photo with him, he was a lot more mellow this time, i think last time i met him he was under stress (no idea why) so to have him all laughs and smiles was so aces. he rembered the previous event but we agreed it wasnt worth talking about, apart from the distance between Leeds and London because he was talking with american fans about the country size and travel times, and figured my sector was as good as any to use as an example (a londoner whod actually HEARD of yorkshire, will become relevant later).
Got to have a photo with Sylvester McCoy in his 7th doctor costume, i was like 5th in line and got to watch him muttering about time and tide and lack or arrangement, then stage-hooking or posing like he was going to hit someone with THE umbrella. he went all buisness for my pic which, while i'm a little sad, i'm also glad of, i think if he'd tried to stage-hook me, my neck would have broken the questionmark handle, and that would have devistated me.
The Grey (Stuff that couldnt be helped)
My suspenders broke before i'd even left my cousins, cos i picked up the wrong pair at hime, so i was walking round with a malfunction all day. I alternated between explaining the Tardis bit me (which is actually how they originally broke, back at Comic Con Liverpool 2021) and that a over-friendly Lupari bit them so I couldn't go anywhere.
I missed the group cosplay thing because Anna had gone for lunch and it wasnt announced properly, and jml Jodie joined in, but with the malfunction (as i mentioned above) and my own ifyness about being around some of the more toxic/plastic fans, i'm not as bummed about it as I may have been.
The Bad
1. I got in at half 9/10 didnt actually get the chance to meet Jodie till exactly 4pm because diamond passes outrank 'normal' fans.
If a guest is only there one day all fans should be given the same chance, but as per its all about the greeen ££££ for the organiser, and to hell with those unable to fork over hundreds cos they're obviously 'not real fans'
2. the stewards still don't know where their arses are, they have no idea whats going on, where its going on or how, you could ask them what colour shirt they were wearing and they'd have to go ask someone. and then get pissy when you tell them its their actual job to know certain stuff AND keep their temper with fans who may have reasons for not being able to understand their random shrugs and grunts.
3. we all got bag searched going in, standard procedure at all events in London because of varying security issues, but when swords are allowed in (REAL swords some of them mind) and I get read the riot act for having a flag on my bag and one in my bag, even after I explain its not a countries flag its a Countys flag, the county where 2 of the guests come from, i still got the side eye and the guy had to contact his higher up to ask if it was ok, he didnt in the end because i told him to google white rose. i mean come the fk on!
someone said its 'cos of the shit going on in trafalga yesterday' which to everyone else translates as the fact the Ukranian flag (which as the same blue as Yorkshires own i will admit) was projected on to Nelsons column, as well as the lights of the Eye and oxo tower changing to the flag colours. its still a bloody insult, more when you know those changes were done in solidarity not as a hacktavist attack or something.
4. the timetable was given out the week before and there was no warning of things running late but a paid for talk and photshoots butted up against the supposed event end time. hand in hand with the steward thing this proves lack of care and organisation.
The Pics
I went to Leicester Square on the friday, and while I didnt get the picture I wanted (the Batman Statue because it was too bright with the Batman ad blaring from the Odeon he stands on / the Iron throne because the centre of the square is closed and gated at night) I got a few decent shots of the other Statues, represented here by Harry on his Nimbus 2000.
I then walked down to Trafalga Square where I watched them project the Ukranian flag onto Nelsons Column, i saw people gathering with signs and flags too but this was my best pic.
the next four are photoshoots. not a fan of the first 2, nothing bad about the guests, just the way the pics came out. my fave is no.4 with Adrian, and yes its flipped here, wouldn't be able to tell if not for his "plant powered" top lol.
the last pic is Kings Cross when you come up from the underground station.. just felt like it was a good "end of my trip" picture
Well, I'm considering Megacon Birmingham end of March for nikolaj coster-waldau but that depends on £ closer to the time.
The one I have locked in in Wales Comic Con at the start of April : Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, Amy Manson, Julie Benz, Alex Høgh Andersen and Summer Glau are my reasons :D
