for
pretty_panther who wanted something with Real captains and 'hope'. i didn't use the word 'hope' but i feel like it still comes across (maybe?). it's really short.
Looking around carefully, Raul walks steadily over to Iker. They smile at each other, a silent understanding they have. When he used to this on the pitch, he never minded. How could he? If there was anyone who could lead the team, his team, it could only be Iker. The first time he realized he wasn’t going to be in the starting eleven however, Raul couldn’t fathom anyone else wearing his band but him. He didn’t mind giving it away when he was taken off but to not even lead his men onto the pitch was very tough for him to handle.
Later however Raul came to terms with the fact that he wasn’t the team but a part of the team. He would never forget the day he walked up to Iker, like he does now, and ran his fingers along the band of cloth. He shook his head from preventing Iker’s questions and smiled instead when he lifted Iker’s hand and slipped the captain’s band onto his arm. Raul leaned in and kissed Iker once on their cheek before walking away with a slight smile on his lips.
It may not be the first time Raul has done this, and as of right now not the last time either but Iker always whispers ”Gracias” and not just for the armband either.
