Making the big Universities pay up

I found this article on Congress pressing universities very interesting.

I remember when I worked at the Institute observing the vast, money gather machine that was the elite of UCI.  All top performing scientists acted in a capacity as vassals, pledged to tithe much of their grant money to the university (instead of, say, using it to find a cure ( Read more... )

I don't know if you would recognize UCI these days. All the building thats gone on its insane. Alot of $$$. They have added a Law school last I heard as well.
($1 mil seed money from Irvine family for the Law Library)

Oh, I drop in and visit once in a while. They also made millions upon millions selling or leasing the large swaths of south County land around there. That all used to be fields when I was commuting to work in the morning (the San Jouquin Toll Road wasn't even there).

Ah, the unstoppable march of progress.

Oh yes, I forgot to include that. I was shocked to see all the development in all the way up culver (around the Mariner church) That place used to be out in the middle of nowhere.

Not to mention the Wild Rivers area ect. AND Lennar who got all that El Torro Marine base is selling out the development to the Irvine Co. If the Irvine Co.

UCI just was reminding me of Dark City for Awhile there with buildings appearing :)
