Avengers Recs

Jan 12, 2013 14:26

I am really really bad when it comes to recs. But since I've been reading a lot, and onehundredmoons said she was stalking my comments of my last post for recs, I figured, after putting a bunch together in comments for her, that I should probably make a post ( Read more... )

I have to admit to my TOTAL CURIOSITY about what sort of street name doesn't exist in NYC--Peachtree Street or some such?

I don't remember the exact name of the street in the fic, (And I don't remember which fic it was. Ack!) but it was supposed to be in Manhattan - X and Eighth. There was a "X" Street in like Astoria and possibly one in Staten Island, but there was no such street in Manhattan that was anywhere near Eight Ave. or 8th Street. And it wasn't like Maple or Elm Street, it was a weird name. It was one of those little things. And then of course I had to google in case I was wrong (I wasn't - which is how I found out there were 2 streets with that name in the other boroughs. Because I am ANAL LIKE THAT DO NOT JUDGE ME! :-P)

Ah. Yes. Definitely no "X" street (or Ave.X, etc.) in Manhattan--Manhattan's Ave. X would have to be in Brooklyn somewhere if they streets continued through the East River...and Bklyn's Ave.X is all the way down by Coney Island, which is about as far from Williamsburg as one can get.

I'm guessing Avengers fandom doesn't have "secret" streets like Diagon Alley in the HP fandom, then? (I can't believe I've resisted the call of the Marvelverse so long, but I've been too poor to go to many movies for years now, and that seems to be everyone's gateway.)

Anyway, OF COURSE NO JUDGING. Holy shit, you should hear what I have to say when stories don't line up with reality.

Dude! It's the internet! There are ways to get this stuff! (Many of them legal, even! :-P)

No secret streets. Alas. Stark Tower is set where the Met building is above Grand Central (and people still get that wrong IDEK). Someone had Steve (Captain America) getting lost for 3 hours in Bryant Park in their fic. And there are mysterious alleys that don't actually exist on occasion. (Dear fic writers: There are no alleys in midtown! Or dumpsters on the sides of buildings in said alleys. Maybe in Chinatown or the west Village or possibly parts of the lower east side, but NOT IN MIDTOWN and NOT IN TIMES SQUARE!)

What the hell, sister? Either find a new archive that has hundreds of stories I haven't read, or I'm going to be forced to cry!

You are awesome! Thank you for making my job easier. :) I don't know if I'm on quite the same Phil/Clint kick you are, but maybe the corgis will change my mind??? (Did I just write that?)

♥ ♥ The corgi fics are adorable! Also kinda hot. (Well, the one with the porn in it. AFTER!) It's possible that I might have been affected by picturing this during any snuggling parts and as soon as they get more in stock I'm totally buying one! (Though I'm still waiting for a big black dog to go with my Moony wolf (that is now no longer available.) I NEED a Padfoot!)

As for the ship itself, it totally snuck up on me and now I am in love. Oops? (It doesn't hurt that besides adoring the characters, Jeremy Renner is nommy and Clark Gregg is so adorable and funny, and such a sweetie that I just kinda want to squish him. Although when I read, it's the characters in my head, not the actors. They just look alike. Hee!) Plus the whole Coulson's not really dead, although that's never stopped me from shipping before anyway! :-P

Um, yeah, but I ... I couldn't read it. It was like a giant 11K run on sentence without any coherent structure whatsoever. I wanted to like it, but half the time I couldn't tell who was speaking because like three people's dialogue was in once sentence and that sentence was a 10 inch paragraph on my page, all commas and no periods and ... yeah. I was so distracted by the style that the story just got lost and I couldn't finish it.

*ducks*

I am pretty sure that YOU did this to me. I swear I hadn't read more than Shell's LRR, and mostly because she wrote it, not for Steve/Bucky. Now I am unexpectedly as one with the Steve/Bucky. It's YOUR fault, and no, you cannot have a toaster!

But you can have this. :)

Tony and Steve are in love and out of the closet. Then Bucky resurfaces. Steve wants both of them. They don't want anything to do with each other. Oh, the angst!
