reading is fundamental

Ugh. It's been two weeks since I've posted because I can't really think of anything to post about.

Well, anything interesting.

Well, anything interesting to people who aren't me. :-P

Of course there was the whole Russian Meteor thing, the investigation of which is ongoing. Almost made me want to watch Deep Impact and Armageddon again. ( ( Read more... )

Hahahaha! Alas the corgis are a completely separate entity. (And no bestiality either. So far. That I've seen.)

Except for that Corgi!Clint/Padfoot fic that I will never ever ever write.

My theory is that there is a greater proportion of fanfic writers now who read *only* fanfic, and very few or zero actual books, and thus wouldn't have the first idea how to correctly punctuate a sentence if their lives depended on it. The only reading they do does punctuation and grammar wrong, so they also do it wrong. ALL THE TIME.

I wouldn't be surprised. I never really saw this in HP fandom, and I don't remember coming across it in my anime fandoms either - and they tended to skew young - but now it's everywhere in Avengers fic, and I'm seriously at a loss for words. And these stories have hundreds of comments and kudos by the time I get around to reading them, and nobody else seems to have said anything to the authors about it. (And the fact that it's multiple authors and multiple pairings, it's like a scourge! Plus, many of them do seem to have betas, so it's not just the authors, but their betas too! )

Granted, I haven't been reading many books at all lately either, and I have an affinity for run-on sentences, but at least I know how to write dialogue properly. :-P (And I have an excellent beta!)

So Not Ever Gonna Happen In Canon. Title's a bit lame (:-P), and there's a bit of a 'heavy-handed' misunderstanding, but it's well written and fun.

It's so addicting!!!

I don't think I've been on this kind of a tunnel-vision reading bender since my early days in Remus/Sirius.

I always love to see this sentiment pop up on my flist :-) "Ah, back in the days, when I was young and it was all about SBRL/SSSB/SSHP/HPRW/Hagrid/GiantSquid..."* It makes me feel nostalgic and grown-up and sad, in a good way!

*The / in this case indicate an "or", obvsly.
