Followed your post out of the hip_domestics posting about bats. (I live in CT not NY, but close enough since I'm on the edge of the Litchfield Hills.)
What a great list! I love it. Anything that has titles like both Swallows and Amazons and The Wasp Factory mixed up with the 50 greats of Classical literature plus His Dark Materials and The Hobbit has got to be good. I am saving this list as my "To read" list. Sure, a little silly in terms of the construction - hiding a series under a number as a book. Yet still clever enough to get folks to investigate an author's entire body of work, not just one book.
You are just getting started on a journey of writing that has only beginnings. So, please tell me, what did you like about Dune over Dickens? That could be a PhD thesis on its own right....
