Major spoilers from the movie The Devil's Rejects
** DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT YET**
I am so unsure with the change up of Mother Firefly from Karen Black in House of 1000 corpses and then to Leslie Easterbrook in Devils Rejects. Leslie looked more the part of being Baby's mother better, but Karen did a better job of acting crazy in such a way that made it so real and natural. Seeing the beginning of the movie start with Tiny dragging the naked dead girl was awesome. We continued to talk about how that actress had the best part of the movie...being very sarcastic.
After killing Sheriff Wydell in the first movie, The family is caught up in a whirlwind of a killing spree while running from a cop hell bent on revenge. Sheriff Wydell's brother raids the family home. Baby, Otis, Rufus and Mother Firefly shot back. Rufus is killed and Mother Firefly is caught. Baby & Otis get out by way of a sewer drain. Baby calls Captain Spaulding to met up with them. The mayhem continues to the end.
From me reading the website on the movie, I thought I read that Captain Spaulding killed his brother for looking at Baby the wrong way. That threw me when they were having a blast together in the movie. Ok just read it again and he just stab Charlie in the ass for looking at Baby. The movie was more realistic about serial killers than the first having the premise of Dr. Satan.
I really liked the tie ins from the first. Like when the Sheriff let Baby run and was calling out to her saying "I smell rabbit" and "Run Baby Run." I had to chuckle a little about that. I also liked how driving down the rode Otis said no to ice cream, then it shows them ice cream saying "tutti fucking fruity" over and over...hilarious. Otis as usual had the calm but crazy sense of humor. His part was played brilliantly. Again with the face mask from a killing to his smart ass flipping Charlie off attitude.
It is a movie to go see. It is a bit slow at times but all in all a good movie if you love the old 70's style music, and gory & bloody serial killing. Zombie did an awesome job on depicting the family at its strengths and weakness. I just really hated how it ended cause I really was pulling for them in the end to get away. But we will have to wait and see if zombie decides to do anything else with these characters in the future. I sure hope so.
