For anyone over 30

May 27, 2007 11:22

Okay so I am turning 30 in 8 days and I am all over the place emotionally. Is this normal? I am nervous and excited and happy and sad. Like I said, just all over the place. I almost feel like I have to make a complete life overhaul just because of a number. Am I completely overthinking everything again? Help!!!

Well, I hit the same spot in less than a month, and it's not really bothering me. On the other hand, my district boss got there last November, and he was mewling like a baby. I think it affects each person differently. How did you feel when you were about to turn 18, 21? The "milestone" ages seem to all go together... if you were really emotionally excited about them, it follows that you'd be emotionally excitable for each "major" one (30, 40, 50, 65). If you weren't (like me... each of those was just another day, so far as I was concerned), then it probably won't bother you much.

That's just from observation, tho. *shrug*

Well I was excited for 18 and 21, even 25 but there is just something about 30 that seems like I should be making huge lifestyle changes. Like going from being somewhat carefree and slightly irresposnsible to being focused and eliminating the often fun and exciting times in my life. Maybe it's the family-oriented part of me kicking in and telling me that the 20s were a time to be free and reach my goals and now the 30s are the time to settle down and be a resonsible adult, not that I wasn't before. Who knows...

You can be free and reach your goals while being a responsible adult. You shouldn't change your entire life around just because of a number. If you feel that your life isn't what it should be, change it for that reason, not because you're going to be 30.

Your 30th birthday really isn't much different from your 29th birthday, and probably won't be different than your 31st, other than inside your head.

Only change your life around if you want to. Don't feel that you have to, or you won't be happy with the change.

Thanks. That totally makes sense. I think it is in my head and maybe moreso because I am making major changes and decisions that will change my life.

30 wasn't so bad. This coming birthday is scaring the crap out of me.

Yeah. I think another big part of my "freaking out" is that I am turning 30 and don't have any kiddos yet and that scares the crap out of me.

all I can say is the sting was taken out of my 30th. 9-11 happened two days before it, not good but it did make me analize what I wanted in this life and had new resolve to get it!! You made it this far Yay you ! and it is better than the alternative!!!
