Notes: So I tried. This is my first attempt to write a WL fic using a different style. (Forgive me but I used the JE fanfic style.) I hope this is a step towards better things to come. Please forgive me if this sucks. This fandom is the hardest to write for me so please bear with me. Plus I used this pic I saw from the WL LJ community that came from photographer Mick Ryan. He took it for a magazine, I think. Anyway, he's mentioned here as well.
Disclaimer: Don't own them. Work is purely fictional. Sue and I'll kill you.

Nicky leaned against the wall. He looked out onto the huge glass window, staring at the view that was the Hong Kong skyline. He blinked, twice, not even sure if he was in Hong Kong. Maybe he was in Shanghai, he wasn't sure. This is what happens when one is overworked - one tends to forget a lot of things, especially when lacking sleep from crossing so many timezones.
He sighed and slid his hands into the pockets of his jeans. He frowned. Every emotion he didn't want to show, he already displayed for everyone to see. He was waiting, he just didn't know for what. The interview, held at some random room of the hotel, was already done but the reporter and photographer were still hanging around. Packing up, I guess.
He moved away from the wall and sat down on a chair. Caroline, the assistant tour manager, was still talking to the media people, handing out instructions. Dave, their tour manager, was still on his cell phone, either talking to the record company or to management about them. He slumped back on the chair and looked around. Everyone was busy.
Mark lit a cigarette and sat on the chair next to him. He smoked and peered at him through his sunglasses. He took out his cell phone and sent a text message to him.
Nicky sat up straighter after feeling his phone vibrate. He pulled it out of his pocket and opened it. What's wrong? - the message read. Nothing, he sent back.
Not nothing. I know you.
Huh?
Come on, nicks. You know you can't fool me. Tell me what's wrong.
Tell you what?
Please? Don't be like this, nicks. You know I adore you.
He gave a small grin when he read the last text. He always loved it when Mark called him that. It was their little secret, one that they would keep from everyone else.
Mark noticed the grin that Nicky gave. He loved the smile that Nicky always gave him. He'd like to think that the smile was a secret smile, reserved only for him. He took another puff off of his cigarette.
He placed his phone back into his pocket. "I'm bored." He declared. He looked at Mark but the other just chuckled. He continued smoking, oblivious of his surroundings.
Nicky let his gaze fall upon Mark. He just stared, his eyes dancing with laughter. He was making a memory, scrutinizing every inch of the younger one's face. Some might find him unattractive but to Nicky, he was every inch perfectly beautiful. Inside and out. That's what made him special.
"What?" Mark laughed when he caught Nicky staring at him.
"Nothing." Nicky smiled and shook his head.
Just then, lights started flashing. He stopped staring and blinked. "Thanks." The photographer told Mark and he nodded in response.
"What just happened?" He silently bit out. "Did he just take a picture of us?"
"Yeah. Why? Is that a problem?"
"Well...yeah..."
"He asked me if it was okay and I said yes..." Mark replied, as if that would explain everything.
Nicky felt uncomfortable about this. He grumbled, stood up and went to Caroline. He whispered something in her ear. After that, he left the hotel room.
He started walking down the hall towards the elevator. Normally, this wouldn't bother him but somehow, this time it did. Usually he didn't mind others taking his picture - just as long as they asked. But he was ticked off because the photographer took without asking him first. No, that wasn't what's really worrying him. He was more worried at what the picture contained. He was worried of what he looked like, what his pose was. He was worried if what he felt showed on his face. He cringed as he tried to remember. I was smiling...Omg...Damnit!!
He stopped in front of the elevator. He pressed the buttons, not caring to see which ones he was suppose to press. Of course, how he felt showed on his face. He was transparent, or so Mark told him. And now, because of his stupidity, everyone's gonna see something there.
Maybe they won't. If they do, I'll just deny it. It's not like I can't. That's where he thought he was lucky. Not that he didn't love his wife Gina. He did but sometimes he thought she was just a convenient excuse for everything he wasn't, everything he tried to hide.
The elevator doors opened, letting him escape. He stepped inside and pushed the close button. The doors slid back towards each other but stopped halfway when a hand apppeared in between. Mark came in, standing beside Nicky.
He pressed the close button and soon, the elevator was moving. "What was that back there?"
"What was what?"
"Oh, don't give me that bullshite! You pulling that stunt back there! Caroline had to go and ask the bodyguards to tell off the photographer. He deleted the picture because you had a tantrum. What the hell??" He grabbed Nicky's arm and dragged him close.
Nicky twisted away from him. "Well, he didn't ask for permission to take the picture!"
"Yes, he did! And he didn't ask you because he was taking a picture of me! Why would he ask you? You weren't even in the shot." He shook his head.
"So what? Maybe I was! You don't know how many shots he took!" He accused. "And now, the whole world's gonna see!!"
"What?? What're you talking about, ye eejit! Speak up man!"
He averted his gaze from Mark. He was afraid. Afraid to look into Mark's eyes. Afraid of what he might see. Afraid that everybody saw what Mark couldn't see - that he, Nicky Byrne, had feelings for his bandmate. Feelings that he couldn't express or even show. Feelings that, for the most part, he kept to himself.
"Nothing!" He pushed Mark away when the latter tried to come near him. "Never mind! Just...leave me alone!" Nicky pushed past him as the elevator doors opened. He stepped away from Mark and out of the elevators.
Mark sighed and followed him out. He didn't know what happened, just that something did. Maybe this is what comes when adoring someone you love.
"Nicky..." He called out.
Nicky turned around. "What?" He shot back.
He walked up to him and leaned close to his ear. "I adore you." Mark whispered.
Nicky looked down. "I know..." He whispered back.
Inside, his heart spoke out. I know. I know because I've accepted it. I know because that's all I could ever be, all I am. Nothing more, nothing that I could ever hope to be.
He pulled back from Mark. "I know..." He repeated. And then he walked away.
