Prologue
The door was left unlocked. "Huh?" Rimei glanced as she went inside. "Hello? I'm home!"
She took off her shoes and went inside. What she didn't expect to greet her was shock. The whole room was bare, the couch and chair not there. The television set was not in its place, the table and shelves empty of food and books. The curtain's missing, the pots and pans stacked up in boxes, the lights turned off. The only thing that was left was her two siblings, her sister Taname and brother Niichiro.
"What's going on? Where are all of our stuff?" She asked them.
They didn't answer. Taname just sat on the floor, staring out at the window, her eyes red and her back turned. Niichiro just kept playing with his toy piano, too young to understand what Rimei was asking.
She stepped forward as she saw a white piece of paper left on the dining table. Picking it up, she read the contents.
I sold the house. The movers should arrive tomorrow to pick everything up . They know what to do so don't worry.
You're moving. I've bought a new house. You'll be living there from now on. I hope you like it.
I'll be away for awhile and I'm not coming back anytime soon. I need time to figure things out. Until then, take care of each other.
Mom
"There's nothing there." Taname spoke, her voice quiet and calm. Too calm. "All her things have disappeared."
"Huh?" Rimei leaned forward, the paper slipping from her hands.
"She's gone." Taname said. "Mom's gone."
