This is so nice, I think I like it even better on rereading. It's just a moment. Just one little moment of eyecontact from the sidewalk to the street, and yet it really captures the essence of what Buddy is. Buddy saves the Watch, but in doing so he *finally* declares independence for himself from what TPTB want him to do. And yet, Duck's had that all along. Duck won't pretend to be what he's not. He won't settle for a closeted lifestyle just to please society at large. And then Carol...wow. She wants so desperately to fit in. She gives up what she loved for a "respectable" profession helping people find HOMES...and just. Yeah. Duck's got all the integrity in the world, and he's happy to be sharing it with Dan. Meanwhile Buddy and Carol are just beginning to learn how.

Um, so yeah. I think I was trying to say how stunning and wonderful it is that you've packed so much into this single shared glance at a stoplight. *is delighted*

This is really poignant. I'm generally a bit skeptical of the Buddy/Duck pairing but you've really made it work in the framework of canon. I like it very much.
