“You died?” Amelia all but screamed at the man sitting across from her in the commissary. His reply was to simply stare at her. “You fuckin’ died and you didn’t tell me?”

“I knew you would fuss...”

“I think I have the right to fuss, Ronon.” She punctuated each word by leaning just a little bit further in until she basically spat in his face when she said his name. She sat back in her chair, folded her arms and turned to face the window beside them.

Ronon looked the other way, towards the rest of the gathered people in the room. There were a few soldiers that were staring at them from the next table. A scientist was passing by but quickened her pace when she saw Ronon had noticed her.

“What was it like?” The tiny voice that came from Amelia didn’t really sound like her. For the first time since Ronon had become friends with her, she sounded hesitant. She mistook his silence for his own reservations. “You don’t have to if you don’t want to. I understand. You don’t have to...”

Ronon turned to look at her and it shut her up effectively enough.

“It was nothing.”

“Don’t act tough...”

“I’m not.” Ronon interrupted, getting instantly defensive. It took him a few moments to continue. “It was like nothing. It wasn’t even blackness. It was... nothing.”

Amelia got up from her seat and went around to wrap her arms around his shoulders from behind. She had never actually seen anyone hold Ronon like this before but she had never thought twice about it.

“It was dark when I woke up again but everything was so bright... so colourful.”

Amelia had never seen Ronon lose control over his emotions and today seemed like it was the day. But once again, Ronon realised his surroundings and changed his mind. He patted Amelia’s arm and they slipped from their hold reluctantly.

“I’ll see you later.”

“Yeah.” Amelia sat down in the now empty seat and watched as Ronon strode out the doorway towards the transporter.

She let him go. She wouldn’t go after him as she would have done if it was something else under discussion. Because she lied. She didn’t understand. She hoped she never would.
