Fic: The walls are breaking (Dear Evan Hansen)

This one has actually been written for quite a while (way before my other DEH story, which is why this is the one for my 100 Fandom project, and why it's not a match for my 100ships project), but I needed some feedback from my wife before being able to post it, and she only got around to it now.

I like that you fix the lie right off the bat.

DEH is a show that frustrates me to no end because the music is very pretty but having him pretty much get away with everything with a feeling that it's all going to be okay for him in the end is just not okay.

Your take on the story is much better. You still hit the emotional notes only I think yours is more powerful because it's not all tainted with deception. You also got really into the raw emotions and what suicidal thoughts are like. This is just a very good piece of writing.

Thank you so much. I know lots of people struggle with the lying aspect of it all, and while it's not something I've personally had issues with, I did wonder what it would be like if the show delved more into what was actually happening within Evan, instead of this collision course the show brought him on.

I'm honoured you think my take on it was better and managed to still have those heavy emotional undertones.

For me it's the lack of consequence for Evan. When I first watched the show I realized about 3/4 of the way through that this was going to be another "white boy gets away with everything" kind of story and I just didn't have it in me to forgive another one of those.

He gets some punishments but by the end you get the sense it's all going to be fine and just... what he did should have left permanent consequences.

If the show had been more about Evan and maybe actually addressed that he wasn't neurotypical vs letting the fans know that to be the case but not actually coming out and saying it that might have changed things as well.
