Dear Family & Friends,

Please read this short important info.
US House and Senate are about (in a week and a half) to vote on bill that will OUTLAW ORGANIC FARMING (bill HR 875).
There is an enormous rush to get this into law within the next 2 weeks before people realize what is happening.

Main backer and lobbyist is (guess who) Monsanto  ( Read more... )

Please show me where on the bill it says it is outlawing organic gardening and where it says it will require them to use the insecticides and fertilizers.

I'm in favor of the bill because they are going to regulate/investigate pesticides and hazardous long term effects of additives to foods on a wider scale. Not to mention finally poking the hell out of the meat industry.

I read the whole bill from end to end i am not sure where that information is coming from but i was unable to find it on the actual bill. From everything that i've read it looks like they are going to fix all the icky things that have been going on with the food for too long.

I completely agree.

Hmm, given the widespread nature of the rumors about the bill, I wonder if there's been a deliberate campaign of misinformation by someone like the meat industry in an attempt to try to kill the bill. This is perhaps a bit paranoid, but I've encountered documented cases of similar behavior by various food-related industries in the past.

As is so often the case with internet rumors, this rumor is based on a mistake and misinformation. That's not actually what the bill does at all. Here's some actual info about the bill.

*flushes an interesting shade of red* Wow... Normally I'm really good about looking at both sides of the story before picking a side, if any, but the one time I fail to do so I broadcast it to my friends...

Sorry... I'll be quiet now.

Worry not, I've run into quite a number of people who ended up fooled by this one. As I mention in an above comment, I'm not at all certain that this rumor was part of a disinformation campaign to discredit the bill.

honestly given the information that you found i'd be pissed as all hell and running with pitchforks!

Give the full bill a read tho- i think one of the reasons people are panicking are because of the small business end of the deal. and having to make sure things stay to regulated code and what not. Not to mention the government having so much control over our food/health. If the bill does a lot of what it says it is actually ment for it would nice.

===Hard to say....Look at the whole nastiness of how the NAIS has been gone about, and you can understand the reading of such bills in the more suspicious light. (Have fun reading up on that. The implementation of it does not make me feel real safe in terms of the food supply....)
