So it was the first day with our new long-term Sub for Creative writing class. Ms. Dante. or was it Miss Dante? I guess I'll have to ask. It's kindof a weird name anyway like Dante's inferno sort of thing

I notice her wandering down the corridor. I know I've seen her from drama club and I make it a point to greet all of them sooner or later.
"Hi," I say as she walks past where I'm standing. I smile at her, wanting to look friendly as I eye her up and down - okay, so I've seen more natural potential in a horse, but maybe she just wants to work backstage - some people are more suited to darkness.
I'm minding my own business, just walking down the hall, when he starts talking to me. "Hey?" Eric, I think it is. He's that guy who was up in front for the drama meeting. Why's he giving me the look? He must want something. We don't usually hang in the same crowd. I shift my books over to my elbow and eyeball him back. Wonder what he wants?
"I saw you at the drama meeting the other day, didn't I?" I ask, sounding friendly. "It's always good to see a new face. But I didn't catch your name...?" I leave her a pause to reply. Looking at the books she's carrying, I can only assume that she's a senior like me - in fact, it looks like we may actually have some classes together, but she's not really the type I'd notice. However, she's getting involved in the school play and I'm the President, therefore I have to put aside petty differences, like whether she's the right type, and make an effort.
"Yeah, I was there." I start to duck my head but then I catch myself. I'm not gonna let him intimidate me, so I end up tossing my hair back instead. "I came in kinda late so I just hung in the back." So ok, He's cool so far. It's just kinda weird. "I'm Amanda." just leaving it like that seems to strange and formal so I add a little hand wave. that's better right.
