Post-apocalyptic setting, many generations after our era ("the Before"). People who planned for the collapse of civilization decided to store vital information (basic metallurgy, mathematical formulas, germ theory, first aid, etc) by etching it on objects even the most ignorant people would not abandon or lose: blades made of nearly indestructible ceramics. So, the most effective weapons are also the source of knowledge.
This creates a class of warrior-scholars, their duty to rebuild civilization undermined by their own role as fighters.
Hadn't thought it through that far. More like the conflict of trying to build a just society through the use of violence, a common theme in Westerns and post-apoc stories.
