i was told that i will need a very good reason to get a temp passport. actually all i wanted was just to speed up the process.

just go act nice act pitiful. they will issue u the temp passport which say u lost ur passport so u r having this temporary paper as passport. n u will be told not to bring out ur passport no matter what at the custom overseas...

this is what happened to my ex collegue who was in the same situation as u.

Someone managed to get his temp passport on the same day or something, and just because he forgot to renew it, and found out only at the airport :p

Oh yes I can totally empathize the part of traveling long time to work.. So thanks to iPhone and now iPad I can use my time time watching movies or reading..
Think need to fly off in few days is good reason. They can do it but holiday season so must wait for a while.. ;) Good luck and have fun in Taiwan!
