We got some flour and yeast and, already having the other two ingredients on hand - water and salt - forged ahead with my plan.  Many thanks to my friend Dave who, as a professional cook, had some sage advice about making bread.  He gave me a really simple recipe ( Read more... )

Seriously? The first thing I thought when I saw it had raisins in it was, "Eh, we can leave those out..."

This is SO INTERESTING. onceupon is actually allergic to soy, and possibly some of the other ingredients, but maybe I can cut this recipe in half and try it out. She's not *deathly* allergic to these things...

Most of all, I just love the smell of bread as it rises, even before you bake it. Bread dough is one of my favorite things... Mmmm... yeasty!

If you're making whole wheat bread, make sure you look into oatmeal bread too! We make our own bread all the time! =D

Another thing you can do is make herb bread (especially with that basil around! YUM!) if you're interested.

Oh, dear. Our cats love plastic shopping bags and cardboard. *sighs*

I am definitely planning on progressing to adding grains and other stuff to the loaves eventually, but right now I'm working on "perfecting" my technique. Once I've got the basics down I'll start trying to get fancy.

Did you try the no-knead recipe? That was my first try and I really liked it. And YAY for TFLoaf.
