I was prescribed it last year but stopped using it after two days because of weird mental side effects. out of just plain wanting to try anything to stop the headaches, I started to take it again, it was tough for two weeks to get used to it. first week was really bad, hard time thinking, could not remember some things. . .I ( Read more... )

Topamax did nothing for me. I'm doing pretty good on Lamictal and a beta blocker. Lamictal has way less side effects for me.

I've been on Topamax for years and it's amazing for my headaches and with very few side effects. But I've heard nightmare stories from other people about side effects, so it's clearly not for everyone. The biggest problem I know was caused by it was nausea when I first started taking it, and I took just Prilosec for a few weeks to deal with it.

I'd be concerned if you're getting cognitive effects already. Also, that seems like a really high dose to start at? I take 50mg twice a day, and we worked up to that.

Topamax made me super fuzzy and I had so much trouble digesting with it that I ultimately had to get off that. I called my neurologist at the time, and I think he had a deal or something going with the people who sell Topamax because when I told him I could only basically eat soup while on it, after 8 weeks-he told me not to lower my dosage, but to give it another week. I lowered my dosage immediately, because his concern seemed to be elsewhere rather than with me ( ... )

I've been on it for two years. At first it helped, but now it seems to have little effect. It did make words difficult to find for about a week. It has helped me lose some weight.
