stephen a. smith can bite me

i don't understand the idea that nobody can afford shaq. no, plenty of teams CAN afford him, they just don't WANT to give up the pieces they'd have to surrender for him. which in turn, i almost don't blame them. he might still be the most dominant nba player, but he's also obviously on the downside of his career. we won't know until next year if ( Read more... )

I liked that little bit about what you could do with $25.whatever million...
  • Have Shaq on your team
  • Pay the entire Milwaukee Brewers
  • Buy 80 bajillion copies of Kazaam
  • Finance Dodgeball, then go see it 60,000 (or whatever it was) times.

I see what you're saying about him fitting in Philly. I don't follow the Sixers, but the "big man down low" seems to be missing. Dalembert's good, but doesn't have the experience or the girth. You're dead-on with Ashton Kutcher and his 3-pt shot...I think the first time I saw him miss was in the 3-pt contest. Admittedly, I don't watch basketball a lot, but still.
The question of how AI would fare on a team where he's not the biggest name comes up, but evryone needs a little humility.

In related news, does that Orlando deal not seem like a good idea for Houston? T-Mac is a tremendous player, but I think Houston's giving up too much.
And did it really need to be said that Franchise wasn't pleased?

houston's giving up too much? hardly. they just got rid of 2 people who like to hog shots that they can't even make. franchise was and never will be a pure point guard. not that they got one now..but i like mcgrady handling the ball better than franchise, just on the basis of his size alone.

tmac and yao ming? i definitely feel how that sounds. seeing how yao is coming along, that might be the next shaq/kobe-like tandem.

I dunno - I picked Franchise up for my Y! team and he helped out big there, and I haven't been swearing at the TV due to Cuttino in the handful of Rockets games I saw last year. Like I said, I know about as much about basketball as I do about international soccer: I recognize names and beyond that not much.

I can see the T-Mac/Yao tandem blowing things up...the question of Yao Ming getting along with T-Mac (or however they phrased it last night) is ridiculous. Is there a less egotistical All-Star in the league?

right, yao can get along with anybody, and tmac is pretty cool as long as things are going well. i mean, even last year, he wasn't bitching at his teammates more so than the entire magic organization in general.

i know more than i wish i did about basketball.

courtesy of dictionary.com:

Irregardless originated in dialectal American speech in the early 20th century. Its fairly widespread use in speech called it to the attention of usage commentators as early as 1927. The most frequently repeated remark about it is that "there is no such word." There is such a word, however. It is still used primarily in speech, although it can be found from time to time in edited prose. Its reputation has not risen over the years, and it is still a long way from general acceptance.

boo-yeah, bitch!
