Powerful and frightening. The scene with the soldier and Charles as his mum...definitely teared up. But I love the connection between the boys here, how Erik tries to protect Charles once his father is dead, even if he'd been encouraging him to believe his way before, how he did what Charles asked. A fascinating AU.

Thank you so much! Both of the soldiers' scenes were hard to write, so very happy to know that they were effective! -hands tissues-

Charles was shaking, but there were suddenly arms around him. Erik’s voice was surprisingly gentle, “I told you. Don’t read my mind.”

Oh honey I was already wibbles at this point but then I kept reading and it just kept getting more and more majestically horrifying (like a good war novel should be) and by the end I'm in pieces. But yes, this is wonderful.

Just so you know, your brillance never fails to astonish me. I loved the powerful imagery in this piece. You captured the gritty, raw, destructive nature of war--poor Charles, pretending to be loved ones to the dead and dying. :'(

Just stunning writing here. Reading your work; the words flow as smoothly as melted butter. It's an absolute pleasure. :D

Thank you! You're always so kind. I, for one, envy your ability to write light stuff XD. All my stuff ends up being really depressing. The beginning scenes were inspired from the movie Atonement.
