EPILOGUE

Matsumoto Jun rushed out of the filming studio as soon as the director wraps up today’s filming. It’s not so often that he would leave the set ahead of everyone else and he felt quite guilty especially that they surprised him earlier with an advance birthday party but he promised Yana to see her as soon as the filming ends tonight.

Natsuniji is close to ending and he can’t wait for the next three weeks to swiftly pass by as he’ll have more free time by then to spend quality time with his girlfriend. It has only been nine days since that fateful night in Kokuritsu that they made everything official and so far things are going beyond amazing. Yana has changed so much in that short period of time, she’s more confident and fearless and she’s undeniably happy, it’s all written all over her face. The radiant glow can’t lie.

As Jun storms out of the building, a familiar car awaits him in the driveway and he hurriedly makes his way to the driver’s side.

“I’m driving this time.” Yana grins as she rolls down the window.

“Okay.” He said while twitching his eyebrows before walking to the passenger’s side.

Once he entered, he reached in for a much awaited kiss. “So where are we going?” He asked after their lips parted.

“Hmmm…” Yana strums her fingers in the steering wheel. “What do you say about Yokohama?” she beams as she starts the engine and drives off the road.

Jun chuckles in surprise as he checks his watch for the time. “It’s pretty late, don’t you think?”

“My schedule wouldn’t start early tomorrow and so are you so it’s okay to stay up late, don’t you think?” She raised an eyebrow as she mimics his voice with that last phrase.

Jun laughs and gives in. “Could it be that you’re up to something?” She playfully wiggles her brows and didn’t utter a reply. “Because you know… It’s my birthday in three hours.” he smiles widely.

“What makes you think I’m giving you a surprise?” She narrowed her eyes hoping that her acting is convincing.

“Wild guess…” Jun says as he surveys her face. “I saw you purchase my favorite champagne.” He added and she widened her eyes at him.

“Why do you have to spoil everything?!” She cries in distress as Jun began laughing.

“It’s your fault for leaving it in your kitchen counter for the world to see.” He returns the blame on her.

“I put it away when you arrived!”

“I still saw it along with the receipt hanging around the kitchen.”

Yana pouted and her excitement suddenly drops down to zero. This is the first time that she would throw a surprise for anyone and it’s a complete failure.

“It’s okay.” Jun reached for her face as he gently strokes the back of his hand on her cheeks. “Beside from the champagne I don’t know anything else.” He said in consolation. “I’ll just pretend that I don’t know and act real shocked when we get there.”

Yana smiled faintly. “It’s nothing big like what you planned on my birthday, really.” she said in a dispirited voice. “I’m still a complete amateur.”

“It doesn’t matter if it’s big or small.” Jun reassured her.

“It’s a total rip-off of your unexecuted yacht plan.” She confessed and Jun smiles. Yana isn’t the demonstrative type and in their relationship, he’s more of the affectionate one so hearing her copying his idea is not a big surprise. And it seems like she’s really into the yacht plan back then. “I just thought that it’s sweet and I really wanna do it, so I figured why not do it on your birthday…”

“So let’s do it.” Jun enthusiastically says. “I can’t wait till we get there.” He smiled warmly and she finally let loose of the distraught expression on her face.

“I love you, do you know that?” She told him. Jun has this magic to make her feel good in bad times and it makes her love him ever more.

“I know that. I’m a lucky man.” Jun proudly replied making her giggle in joy.

---

As the yacht sail through the middle of Tokyo Bay in this dreamy night full of stars and the moon brightly lighting up the vast night sky, Jun and Yana stands on the deck, sipping his favorite champagne as they silently admire the view and savoring this very moment.

“Where do you get this yacht?” Jun asked. Compared to what he borrowed last time, this one’s more posh and swanky with the wooden flooring and the chic seats and the classy lighting. There’s even a small Jacuzzi by the deck and he wonders if they can use it later.

“You’re not the only one with connections.” She answered smugly.

Jun inches closer as he wraps an arm around her waist. “I wonder if we can fully make use of this yacht.” He whispers before kissing the skin beside her ear.

He heard her chuckle as she gently slaps his cheek. “I’m sorry to disappoint you but I’m following a plan here, ecchi boy. Leave the naughty thought for tomorrow.”

“What exactly is your plan?” Jun tried to ask but she’s firm enough not to disclose it.

“I can’t tell you. It’s supposed to be a surprise, remember? And you promise you’ll pretend to not know a thing.”

“Okay but can you charter this yacht until tomorrow?” Jun beamingly suggested.

Yana drops her jaw in awe. “Sometimes, I wonder why you’re that naughty, Matsumoto. Nino was right when he told me before that you love sex.”

Jun’s eyes go wide. “Nino told you that I love sex?!”

And that’s when Yana realizes that she drops a big bomb. “It was during that time when we fight like cats and dogs and I was comparing him to you and he suddenly blurted out that you love sex.”

Jun’s face is utterly confused. “Can you care to elaborate?”

Yana sighed in agitation. “I can only remember vividly but we were arguing about something and then he accused me of hitting on you and I told him that you’re different from him. That you don’t suddenly trap a girl inside an elevator and all that.” She paused and Jun faintly laughs with the haunting memory. “And then he says that he knows you better than I do and you also love sex.”

“You and Nino used to fight over petty things like two elementary school kids.”

“Well, he is an elementary school kid trapped in twenty-seven year old man’s body.” She resolutely said and Jun laughs.

All of a sudden, a loud sound coming from a far gets their attention and few seconds later, a firework show started beneath their eyes.

“Surprise!” Yana said animatedly as Jun pulls her closer for a cuddle as they watch the captivating display of colorful fireworks.

“Copycat.” Jun teased her as he kissed the side of her forehead.

“But you still love me, right?” Yana replies wittily.

“Of course… Always.” He answers softly as their lips gently meet.

“Happy Birthday, Jun.” Yana greets him after the kiss as he cradles her waist.

“Thank you.” His hands went up to her face. “This is the best birthday ever. I have the most priceless gift in the world.” He says, admiring the gift in front of him.

It’s not her birthday but Yana feels like it is at how Jun manages to make the butterflies churns in her stomach with what he just said. And with little moments like this, she feels really lucky to have him in her life.

---

Exactly forty-five minutes after the day turns August 30, they left the port to head back to Tokyo. Jun thought that the surprise is over but she said that they are headed somewhere and it’s another surprise. He realized later that they are going towards Azabu and his guess is spot on as she stopped in front of a restaurant.

“Are we here?” Jun asked, peeping outside the window. Almost all of the establishments in the area are closed now seeing that it’s already past midnight.

“Yup.” Yana answered as she unbuckles her seatbelt.

“But it’s close.” He pointed out.

“Just trust me, Jun.” She gets out of the car and he follows along.

The walk toward the entrance with their hands tangled together. Yana opens the door and the whole place is quiet and dark.

“What are you up to?” Jun laughs suspiciously.

Before Yana can answer, the lights suddenly opened and party poppers started blasting all over the place. Jun saw familiar faces present in the room, some of their staff from Shiyagare and Himitsu no Arashi-chan are there.

Everyone began singing happy birthday and the four Arashi members suddenly popped out with a big birthday cake. Jun eyes Yana in disbelief.

“Not my idea, unfortunately.” Yana murmured as Jun chuckles soundlessly.

The song ended and Jun blows the candles as everyone cheered raucously.

“Who planned this?” Jun jokingly looks for the culprit.

“It’s Ohno-san’s idea but the four of us planned it along with the staff and some unnecessary inputs from Yana in which we didn’t use any of it.” Nino informed the birthday boy.

“Shut up, Nino!” Yana hissed at the brat.

Jun is totally overwhelmed with the sudden turn of events. “Wow. I don’t know what to say but thank you… Thank you, Leader. Thank you everyone for throwing this party, I’m really happy.”

The party continued as everyone indulges in the Italian food and the overflowing bottles of red wine. The Arashi members gave Jun presents of hot spring and yakiniku vouchers, Yana gave him luxurious headphones that have a heart-rate monitor, pedometer, a stop watch and syncs up with any a computer.

But the best part of the night was when the Arashi members presented a video presentation that they made themselves. It consist of pictures from their debut up to the recent, they even made their own narration. The video brought tears to Jun’s eyes, much to everyone’s amusement.

---

“Where are you taking me?” Yana whines irritably as Jun pulls her out the dressing room. He wakes her up earlier at six in the morning and orders her to get ready in thirty minutes in which she demanded but Jun is firm on his command and wouldn’t listen to a single word she says. An hour later, they arrived at the artist entrance of Kokuritsu Stadium which leaves the sleepy Yana in total confusion.

“Just follow along.” Jun asked her.

“It’s so early, Jun. I’m normally still asleep at this hour. The other guys are still not here, you know.” She complains as she just let him drag her to wherever they are going.

“Sho-kun’s here already, for your information. You’re deeply in your sleep in the dressing room that’s why you haven’t notice him. And the others will probably start arriving any minute now.”

They passed through the backstage area as Yana noticed the makeshift structure, the low ceiling and totally dark and narrow passage.

“Yana, wake up.” Jun shakes her by the shoulder.

“Just what are you trying to do, Matsumoto?!” She yelled agitatedly.

“Trust me on this.” He winks at her and she laughs in restraint.

Yana suddenly heard a big gush of water like there’s a waterfall nearby.

“You didn’t get to see the opening last time, right?” Jun asked her.

“Yes…” Yana answered suspiciously.

“You’ll see it now.” Jun smiled as he takes her hand.

“But the concert won’t start until this afternoon. It’s just eight in the morning.” Yana told him.

“You’ll see it ahead of the fans coming today and you’ll experience it from our point of view.” He stated confidently and the wall behind them slowly started opening.

Yana drops her jaw in amazement as she slowly saw the brightness outside as the wall opens. The gushing water she heard earlier is from outside and they are actually coming out of the waterfall.

“Jun, this is…” She’s totally at loss of words.

“Amazing, right?” Jun tries to fill in her sentence.

“Is this even allowed?” She wonders, in complete dumbstruck.

Jun laughs at the hilarious question. “They’re going to test the waterfall before the concert anyway.”

He pulled her out of the backstage and into the main stage as the water splashes into them. The view on the top of the stage is breathtaking and Yana can feel her heart beating ecstatically. She wonders how it would feel to come out into this stage with the thousands of people filling up every seat welcoming you with their smiles and cheers.

“I’m looking forward to the day when I’ll be seating in the audience watching you coming out of this stage.” Jun told her and it made her dropped her jaw again.

“Are you crazy? I’m no Arashi.” She dismissed his silly idea. “I don’t think I can fill these seats, Jun.”

“You’re conquering Tokyo Dome next month, Yana.” Jun reminded her and she smiled. “Two days in Tokyo Dome, 110,000 tickets sold out in just an hour... You’re Kokuritsu-worthy!”  He puts his arm around her shoulders. “I think you’re even better in singing than I am.”

“I am way better singer than you are.” She smugly states as they both erupt in laughter.

“Do you like to watch again later? From start to finish?” Jun asked.

She smiled and nodded. “Of course, I will… Just let me change my clothes first.” She added as they both look at their wet clothes.

Jun pulled her again and hugged her tenderly as he moves just below the waterfall, soaking her entirely with water.

“JUN!!!” She screams as Jun started running away from her. And the two of them started playing like little kids, running around the massive concert stage with their soaked clothes.

*I just incorporated the infamous Matsujun surprise birthday party that Arashi gives him on his 27th birthday because the setting of the story coincidentally happens at the same time.
