Chapter Sixteen: A Tearful Reunion
He ran as fast as he could, not minding the throng of people blocking his way or the two guys running anxiously behind him or the fact that he’s actually reporting on location. All he cares about right now is to get inside the temple and see her face to face. In the back of his mind, he wishes for this to be all untrue, that the girl he just saw is not the one he thinks she is, that he got it all wrong and in the end, he’s worrying for nothing.
“I’m sorry, you can’t get in. Media is not allowed inside.” An imperial guard blocked his way inside the temple while pointing at the media pass he’s wearing around his neck.
From behind, Jun and Nino already caught up with him, tired and almost breathless.
Sho removed the media pass and shove it inside his coat. “I just need to see someone.” He pleads. “I promise, I will not create a scene inside.”
The imperial guard snorted. “I’ve heard that many times from people like you. You can’t get in. Now go before I call back-up to get you and your friends out of here.” It seems like he doesn’t know who these three guys are from the way he speaks to them.
“Sho-kun, let’s go.” Jun pulled him by the arm but Sho wouldn’t move an inch.
“Please. I beg you. I need to see Princess Sayumi. It’s important.” Sho continue to plead helplessly.
“Everyone in this country would probably want to see the Princess. You’re not the only one.” The imperial guard remains cold.
Sho steps back as he exchanges vicious glances with the indifferent imperial guard. He finally turns around as he, along with Jun and Nino, silently walks away from the door.
Suddenly, Sho runs like the speed of light towards the door and escaped the unwary guard. A game of cat and mouse arises as they all run after each other in the revered corridor of the temple. The imperial guard immediately asked for help over his earpiece and soon after Sho reached the end of the corridor, the three Arashi members were undermanned with at least five imperial guards.
A tall and buff man in uniform clutched Sho on his arm and his companions did the same with Jun and Nino, escorting them on the way out.
“I told you, I just want to see someone! I’m not here to create a scene!” Sho yelled as his voice fills the silent corridor, fighting to escape the tight grip on his arm.
“You’re doing exactly that right now.” The imperial guard who’s clutching him by the arm said. “Keep quiet before I lose my patience and call the authorities.”
“You better keep quiet, Sho-chan, you don’t want this to come out to the media. We’ll be dead.” Nino put in some sense into the helpless and desperate Sho.
“This is not you, Sho-kun. You’re not this desperate for a girl who lied straight to your face, are you?” Jun eyed him meaningfully, despite the fact that they literally being dragged out by these intimidating men.
Sho was hit straight to his chest and he suddenly felt powerless and weak as he let the tall and buff imperial guard carries his weight on his muscular arm. He didn’t open his mouth again to argue, but it evident that his eyes are starting to tear up.
“What is that noise?” A strong and disembodied voice was heard from behind as all of them turned around to face him. “Your voices can be heard inside.”
“Kiyomizu-san.” The imperial guard who’s gripping Sho answered. “These media men wanted to intrude the wake. We were about to escort them outside.”
Kiyomizu dauntingly eyed the three guys one by one before speaking again.
“Then go ahead before they create another scene and attract the attention of the family.” Kiyomizu ordered. “We don’t want to disturb them as they mourn.”
The imperial guards nod their heads and were about to head out of the corridor but they stopped when another person came.
“What is going on here, Kiyomizu?” A girl appears from the door. “I can hear the commotion all the way inside.”
“Satsuki-san, you need not to worry. These media men are insisting to go inside but the guards already have the situation under control.” Kiyomizu assured her.
Satsuki looked at the three guilty men in front of her and for what seems like half a minute later, she smiled at them, as if assuring them that they are safe in her care.
Sho have seen the same smile before, it’s the same smile he’s wanted to see for months.
“Kiyomizu, these three gentlemen are not from the media.” Satsuki looked at the confused butler behind her, the imperial guards are also as confused as him. “Have you not heard about Arashi?” She turned to face him but his eyebrows only creases even more.
“Let them go.” Satsuki ordered the guards but they didn’t give in to her order but instead, they looked at Kiyomizu on what to do.
Satsuki cannot blame the guards for not following her instruction. The word ‘Princess’ is not attached to her name anymore and she’s only a mere commoner now.
“Please ask them to let the three gentlemen go, Kiyomizu.” Satsuki said again.
Kiyomizu nods. “You’ve all heard what Satsuki-san said. Let them go.” Kiyomizu ordered and they did as he said.
“Can you please ask the guards to leave, Kiyomizu.” Satsuki instructed again and with Kiyomizu’s commands, the guards were quickly out of sight.
“Imagine my surprise when I saw three members of the National idol group in my mother’s wake.” Satsuki said as soon as the corridor is free of imperial guards, only Kiyomizu is left with them. “What’s more intriguing is that they are trying to break in to the venue.” She remained calm but intimidating.
“You know us?” Jun is fascinated.
“Are you kidding me? I see your faces everywhere and my daughter adores you guys.”
Jun and Nino exchanged astounded glances while Sho is quietly standing in between them, his mind is blankly floating in the air.
“It’s quite flattering to hear that from you.” Nino puts in timidly.
Satsuki humbly smiled at them. “Now, I’m curious. What are you doing here?”
Jun and Nino looked warily at each other and then shifting their gaze to Sho, who salvaged the awkward tension.
“Nothing that would interest you, Satsuki-san.” Sho monotonously said. “We’re sorry for troubling you, we’ll leave now.” He turned around to head out, Jun and Nino followed.
“You wouldn’t risk being caught by the imperial guards if it’s nothing, Sakurai-san.” Satsuki meaningfully said. Sho is surprised that she knows him by the name. “What do you need to be here for?”
“Please don’t trouble yourself with my personal concerns, Satsuki-san.” Sho kindly told her.
“It just so happen that your personal concerns is in my mother’s wake. I think I should involve myself, am I right, Sakurai-san?”
Sho smiled faintly at Satsuki’s persistence, for a brief, quiet moment, the two stood there face to face, waiting for someone to speak.
To their surprise, the next voice they heard neither comes from the two.
“Kiyomizu, where is Nee-chan?” Jun, Nino and Sho, especially, knows for sure who’s the owner of that voice and in that very moment, Sho’s heart stopped beating.
He’s been yearning to hear that voice for months, his mind is replaying that voice every night before he sleeps. He vividly remembers the sound of it and as he closes his eyes, imagining that she just right beside him, whispering sweet nothings in his ear.
“I’m here, Yumi.” Satsuki said, not leaving her eyes off Sho and she clearly saw the sudden change in his face when he heard her sister’s voice.
“I’ve been looking for you. Why did you suddenly disappeared without-”
Sayumi lost all her words when she got a better view of what’s happening in the corridor.
Sakurai Sho is staring straight into her face, tears are threating to come out from his eyes and his hands are trembling with emotions. He didn’t utter anything, his look says it all.
“Sho.” Sayumi manages to say, her voice is wobbly.
Sho still didn’t say anything. A single tear fell off his eyes but he quickly wipes it away.
“Do you know him?” Satsuki asked her sister and she nodded.
“Sho.” Sayumi’s voice is clearer now. She walks closer to him and placed her hand on his warm cheeks.
“Don’t touch me.” Sho took her hand away furiously. “I don’t know you.” His voice breaks and tears began to fall tremendously.
He turns around to Jun and Nino behind him. “Let’s go.” He said and strides off quickly.
“Sho, please! Let me explain.” Sayumi runs towards him and embraced him from behind.
“Please.” She pleads, crying as she tried to took his hand on hers but Sho ultimately rejects it.
“You lied to me.” Sho firmly accused her as she tried to hold onto him from him back. “Everything we shared is made of lies. I don’t think I can ever forgive you for that.” He took her hands away from his waist as he walks away with Nino and Jun.
Sayumi was left all alone in the middle of the corridor with tears streaming down her face and a heavy burden in her heart. This is not the way she imagined this to be. She will tell him about her real identity in time, when everything is right. But she realized that time is always playing with them and will always find a way to break their hearts.
Sayumi suddenly fell on the ground as Satsuki and Kiyomizu quickly went to her side for comfort. Satsuki pulled her sister for a consoling hug as she cries helplessly in her arms.
“I ruined everything, Nee-chan.” Sayumi mumbled in between sobs.
Satsuki doesn’t know everything about what’s happening right now but she’s only sure of one thing. Her sister truly loves this man and she feels obligated to make her sister feel better. She suffered enough pain with their parents’ accident, she doesn’t want Sayumi to endure another heartbreak.
----------
Jun offered to take Sho home and Nino accompanies them. The entire ride to Sho’s apartment was awkward and quiet. Sho never utter a single word since he sat at the backseat of Jun’s car and the two men in front did a good decision to not say anything about what just happened.
Although it was quiet, Jun and Nino can see Sho’s silent sobbing in the rear view mirror and they can’t help but feel sorry for him. It is no secret among the members that Sophie is the love of his life and nothing can beat his dedication for her. But now, he’s face with the secrets she kept and the lies she made. They can imagine how broken Sho feels right now.
They reached his apartment building just after the sun sets. Jun and Nino cautiously looked over to Sho who’s not moving an inch from his seat.
“Why are you running after me?” Sho asked, his voice is weak and hoarse. His gaze is blankly into the street. “Is it because you know about her?”
Jun and Nino waited for each other to speak but Jun feels responsible to answer the question.
“We found out in the news earlier. Aiba-chan and I saw it.”
“And you didn’t tell me?”
“We were waiting for the right time.” Jun answered.
Silence. Jun and Nino are awaiting his response but it took him awhile.
“Certainly, you fail in that plan.” Sho’s gaze flew straight to Jun’s uneasy eyes. “I don’t blame you, Matsujun.” He assured him after seeing the sadness in his face. “I appreciate your concern.”
Sho picked up his bag and opened the door. Not saying anything else, he quickly gets out and walks towards the entrance of the building.
