Hungry

I need to figure out when I should start prepping/cooking for dinner. I really need to eat before 8pm. Ideally I would like to eat around 5:30pm. So I guess that means I need to start prepping at 4:30 or so (depending on the meal ( Read more... )

It's just part of my day. We eat at 6 every night. I usually check the recipe in the morning to see what I need to take out of the freezer, and see how long prep time is. It's less being motivated and more just knowing it has to be done.

*nod* I need to make it a part of my day. I think I'm going to have to start scheduling my day again. I did pretty well when I did that. Otherwise the ADHD attacks and I only want to do the fun things. Right now I tend to float around between the internet/knitting/movies/whatever. I need a tight schedule to keep my engaged.

Mom totally broke my routine by doing all the housework for me for nearly two weeks. Now it sucks that I have to do the dishes by myself again. lol.

I've been doing that floating around thing the past few days. It's been nice. :) Usually I am a slave to the clock because of school (the kids) and their activities and so on.

Yeah, you are usually a VERY busy lady.

Right now I am the opposite. I don't have a thing that I *have* to do all day (save for an appointment here and there), so right now I long for some scheduled time. I would offer to trade, but I think just one of your days is more than what I do in a week. :-)

The thing that is most successful for us is deciding the night before and getting whatever out to thaw, then it's ready to go when Trevor gets home. However, we are sometimes very good at being lazy at getting takeout, even when we do have something thawed and ready. Having a good repertoire of stuff we make without having to think is good too- we can do about 15 or 20 different meals pretty much on autopilot.

I put most of our meals on cards on my computer and I think we are up to 63 main course meals.

Thawing is our big thing. I usually forget about it until it's meal time.

Do you use your computer in the evening or your phone? You could maybe set a reminder alarm? I don't know how useful that would be, but.

That is an idea. I already need to do this for my meds (again). That would be helpful.

This has been such a battle for me. All my life, I was raised to have dinner at 8 or 9pm. Then as an adult, I realized that wasn't very normal in the states, because of my friends and whatnot. Anyway, now 47 million years later, husbandman and I are making a concerted effort to eat at around 6pm if we can swing it, but it means rearranging our usual day a bit.

Course, that means I now fall asleep at like 9 pm these days too, lol.

It's not what we WANT to be the norm, but we will more than sometimes eat at 10-11pm at night because neither of us wants to cook. In the summer it's worse because of the heat. Typically we eat around 8-9, but I want that to change when we have kids... plus I'm trying to lose weight. It's not helping to eat a full meal 30 minutes before bedtime.

I can totally understand that. It's hard. My doc told me to try and eat 3 hours before you go to bed, but that's hard too. Boo, I have no good ideas for this.

I dunno, but I wish I did. The urge to cook hits me, like, never. If it was up to me we would eat nothing but sandwiches, soup out of a can, fruit and yogurt.

That was me before marriage. Greg saw how I ate and was properly horrified. When he's not so busy, he does the cooking. But right now grad school is in full swing so it falls mainly to me. I don't mind, but I am so tired of eating at 10-11 at night.

It's funny, sometimes I miss the way I ate when I was single. Cheap frozen food with interesting add-ons (burritos, chicken burgers, pasta things, etc), soup, chili, most of the time, but I never ate takeout, and I definitely do that now.

Daylight savings murders me, time-wise. I've traditionally started cooking either on twilight or just after dark, but now we've moved it's light here until 10.30 at night! Far too late for the kids to eat, especially when they're not on holidays.

I've got a recurring alarm set on my phone. It's the only way I can get myself into gear.
