I've got several deals on the table, and had to write about one in particular. Rap music. I swore I would always charge extra to record rap or country, just to discourage people, but here I am. I'm booking timme for a rap artist ( Read more... )

Go out and buy yourself a copy of Reason and maybe even a copy of Kinetic. Buy a couple of Hip Hop/Rap ReFills for Reason. Rap music has never been easier.

We have ACID Pro 4 and SoundForge, so it may be enough. If all else fails, I will write them myself, based off of his contemporaries. I know I could do it, I just think that someone who is used to it will write something much better. I have a guy, Eli, I'm trying to get a hold of that I did another album with, who's awesome.

Well, the main thing on rap or hip hop is the beat. The beat is what drives it, everything else is just noise. I suggested Reason and or Kinetic because the ease in which beats can be created on them.

You say he likes the remix style. Does that mean he is going for the P Diddy style? Aka take a popular 80's song, give it a hip hop beat and call and have someone on the track say "This is the remix". Or is he going for the Lil John "Krunk" sound that is gaining popularity? Or does he want to go with the Old Skool Death Row Dr. Dre/Snoop Dog sound? There are so many styles of rap/hip hop sound these days you have to be really specific about the style that one is going for. Try and get him to give you the name of a couple of artists that he considers his contemporaries.

Boom Bom Boom Psh

There, I composed the music to a rap song. Now I want my share ;)

Actually, I kinda like djhawz's idea of going out and buying a TON of rap cd's from each period and style of rap.

O:-)

If I write rap, I have to be careful not to overcharge. I can't stand it, unless I'm paid enough to.

Not all rap is bad. Check out the rap styles such as Riddim and Dub which have a closer musical relation to Reggae. Though, I will be the first to admit that most of what is being called rap today (With a few exceptions) is very fuct.

I just need someone to split the cost with on the songs themselves. Someone willing to sell their music creation, and for not too high a price. I"m leaning more and more towrads writing them myself, if Eli doesn't get back to me.
