Austin
Austin was incredible. MarsHall wasn't able to come, and we didn't catch the band we wanted to see. In fact, we lost our phone list on the first night there, so after recovering a few of them, we were only able to see about half the people we had planned on spending time with. It turned out to be a good thing, however. We had just the right amount of time to see the half that we could still get a hold of.
We stayed at the
Oak Grove Abbey, which is a live-in house of study. As they say, "What do you get if you cross a monastery, a seminary, and a mission agency?" It's in a 1937 house, about five blocks from the Capitol building. The Abbots there were great to hang out with. And we have an open invitation to come back. Coolness.
We also got to see several of the couples that we've met in the last month at the various things the Missionary Church has had us going to. Great people who think outside the box. Needless to say, between the people and the city, we came home encouraged and bearing several new tools for helping The Woodlands area develop more culture. We're excited :)
Studio & Production
Also
the recording studio website is now up! This also means that our studio has officially launched as a business. After four years of it not being official, we're more than ready for it to be a legitimate and growing business. The website still lacks a couple of things, but is fully functional. We hope to add music samples of each of our listed clients within the next couple of weeks.
MarsHall Productions and the studio have also teamed up as a full production company, starting with one band being signed on this week. It's a direction that I've always had a vision for with the studio. Even though we're experimenting with it in many ways, being a bit novices in running a record label experience-wise, we're thankful to have several friends that are making a successful living doing it.
I can hardly wait for the website for Draven Priductions to be done. That's where I will be selling all my hop-hop and R&B beats. Thankfully, I'm not having to build that website. I just have to write the beats, and give a brief description. Not to take away from my other projects though. I'm just now starting to record my indie stuff, and after that I will concentrate more on my heavier stuff.
The Inner Sanctum
Now we're turning to our main website, which we had a friend ofer us an incredible deal on revamping. It will be primarily a network of blogs, with an improved system for submitting art, writings, reviews, and the like. It will probably launch as soon as all the features are in place. We'll add the aesthetics later.
Our "Monday Night Thing" is no longer, though we can't seem to break the 3 year habit of hanging out on that night. We've moved our weekly focused discussions - now called "Cafe' Theo" - to Border's Cafe', starting Wednesday, March 16, at 7pm. The first discussion topic being "God in community."
Our "Study & Prayer" night has also moved. Though still in our home, we're now meeting on Sunday nights at 7pm. We're keeping the ancient Jewish studies, contemplative prayer, and multimedia worship experiences ("art night"), only now it's on a different night.
Things are moving forward. We're definitely in a time of relaunch, but it's refreshing to know that the last three years we've inadvertantly taken the time to shut down my parent's ministry, and experimentally plan a new one from our own vision.
This month looks like it will be remembered as the month everything started to launch. Even some of the other businesses that Nadine has been looking to open are starting to become more tangible. Very cool things. We pray that our finances will reflect all these things as well.
