It makes my little Suzatard heart sad to see that Lelouch has about 15 times as many votes as Suzaku (really? He's THAT much better? ;).

Other than that, congrats to Lelouch, C.C., and Kallen.

And congrats to all of the producers for Code Geass STILL topping the hell out of all other anime. I find it kind of funny that CG apparently still pwns in Japan when the English-speaking fandom is so teensy tiny.

Edit: Also LMAO, wtf at Kuroshitsuji being number 2 for best anime. I'm someone who is actually active in the Kuro fandom and really loves the fandom, but... I don't get it. I love Kuro for the intriguing characters, but the plot is so mediocre I'm surprised a lot of people would think it's an objectively good anime, much less coming second right after CG. Wat XD

Well Sebastian must be an amazing character to have taken down Lelouch in the latest Newtype ranking :(

...don't get me wrong, I love Sebastian, but he doesn't come anywhere close to Lelouch in terms of complexity. He is, to be honest, a bit of a Gary Stue.

That could change, what with the series still being ongoing, but he's pretty much the anime James Bond.

Likability aside, Lelouch and Suzaku are two of the best characters I've ever seen. They're easily the most complex characters in Code Geass, and wow, just how complex they are. Both of them are really hard to figure out and fans argue about their true intentions, motives, and feelings to this day.

I don't think anyone on the list even comes close to either in terms of what makes a well-rounded and multi-layered character.

...but I suppose an even greater part of these contests is popularity and likability, and the objectively best (as in, well thought-out and deep) characters are not always the most popular.

Haha, wiki, lol.

Anyway, thanks for the whole sum-up-concept-whatever-ish. :D

I am not surprised, Geass was one of the best and enjoyable anime, and Lulu was the only chara, that whatever did each week, was a trend for the fandom, haha.

I wouldn't be surprised if Code Geass, Lelouch (and maybe C.C.) were still in top 10 next year ^^

Well...with so little people voting (female votes were only in the hundreds???), I'd take these results with a grain of salt. These results can easily fluctuate because of small % of fans representation. I tend to trust Newtype rankings more, since they tend to be more stable and have a bigger audience count. Monthly Animage rankings have so few votes that it's really ridiculous...they almost mean nothing at all...

I think Animage rankings are pretty similar to Newtype's, only with more female readers. Also, Newtype rankings are almost always Gundam-dominated so it's not really fair to another anime. Neither mag alone could represent Japanese audience anyway, so we have to look at the whole picture before judging. However, I find the results of Animage and Newtype (and also Animedia) rankings not that different.

You can compare this post to Newtype yearly ranking 2008-2009 to see my point.

Well for the past year or so it has always been Lelouch, and not Gundam dominated, and I don't think any series dominating means it's not fair...it's just the reality that it's popular, despite how much some disagree.

Animage rankings are not very realistic as they constantly fluctuate and some of them just don't make sense. ("WTF, how can XXX beat OOO??? O_O") NT rankings are more stable, and that usually come from a large fan base with a much larger vote count...statistically speaking, NT is more reliable.

So you're invoking the Law of Large Numbers? Good for you. :D

I completely agree.
