Not so long ago, my History/Social Studies teacher told me not to pursue my dream of visting Japan. The reason was that I would be head and shoulders over everybody. At the time I was around 5'9". If it really were the average height, I'd be even more depressed. (I'm 5'6"; the "short one" in my family.) Last I read, it fluctuated between 5'3" and 5'4". Will return with citations.
