[In light of certain questionable polls she was made privy to, Nami feels that a balance needs to be righted. Honestly? She doesn't much care about the answers. She just wants to have fun. |D]

[Robert would have asked how Jack Horner's personality could be described as anything other than "obnoxious, rude and abrasive", but that last part distracts his attention.]

... "Gay vibe"?

Exactly what is a "gay vibe"? [This is said with a disbelieving tone, because Robert's ego still stings from having his heterosexism rant on the other thread ignored and this sounds pretty damn heterosexist.]

And where exactly do you get it from? [Gaydar is not a concept that Robert is familiar with. Even if he's gay himself.]

That is quite true. However, generally, when something is difficult to research and discover, that makes the process as a whole more rewarding and necessary to undergo. [Robert's reminded of the Great Cleansing when he says this.]

Sometimes. Sometimes it's still just a pain and everything goes to hell because it was all just a trap to make you think it was worthwhile.

[Thinking of various curses she's been through. Yeah.]

[This seems like a pessimistic view to have, but it may very well be motivated by something.] That situation is rarely the case when speaking of scientific research, but in other scenarios I suppose one cannot be too idealistic.

It's especially true with scientific research. Freaking Pycal and his formula or the oil bomb made by --

[Woops. Even her tendency to babble isn't going to get her to finish that thought. So she clears her throat.]

That is, yes, of course, I'm sure you're right.

... [Robert doesn't know what that means, of course. But it's... distressing.]

Well.

Perhaps even science itself is different. But... Terran scientists rarely are stymied by research not progressing to the conclusion one would be expecting.

Maybe their hypotheses are wrong?

It is indeed possible. But a flawed hypothesis only becomes apparent through the evidence collected - hence why there is no such thing as a failed experiment. It simply means that one's hypothesis may need refinement or correction.
