[She spends most of the day out by the orchard-- sitting on the cottage roof, actually, staring out across the snow-covered orchard, wind whipping her hair into her face.  Not that she's noticed.  Nami isn't exactly sulking brooding, but... the events of yesterday have brought back home the sort of situation they're in.  Gilded or not, a prison is ( Read more... )

....I'll be sure to keep an eye out for her, Nami. [He doesn't sound too chipper either.]

If everyone could leave.....I can't decide for everyone so....I'd have to say no.

[Even if Ace had said yes she would have marked him mentally as a no, you know. You can't go home. And you still don't know that, do you? It's what delays her answer at first, that small curling of hurt inside at knowing that what she's thinking isn't fair to people like Ace at all.]

I guess it's encouraging how many people feel that way.

....miss home? [He can't blame her. He wants to go back, too. Even if it's to a war. His nakama are there, busting their asses to get him out.

He doesn't want to leave them.]

More than a little. [She smiles tiredly.] But we can't always have what we want.

[They probably see each other here on a regular basis, really. Nami usually leaves Law to himself, but today... even apart from the question she asked over the journal, she wants to talk to him about other things.

So here she comes, for once, with her Going Merry in hand.]

...hey. Mind if I sit?

Thanks. [She slides into the seat across from him with her drink.] I'm assuming you've been out to the Shinonome by now. Everything to your standards?

I want to go home, more than I can say, but I can't speak for other people. I want to be selfish and say yes, but I don't know that I should. Not when there are people who might be better off here than home.

[Ah, see that gets a smile.]

That's a really good answer. Luceti's kind of complicated, huh?

Sometimes I really hate how complicated it is. But, you know what? I can't say I hate it entirely.

...I wish I could say that. But I like too many people here.

I'll do that. [He decides to filter the rest of this.]

As someone who can't exactly answer that question. Would you do it? [He wouldn't be bothered if Nami said yes to this. She got him a little curious is all.]

[...

...before Bellemere, her answer would have been yes. Which is frightening, in a way. Selfish as all hell.]

I don't know.

[It's a small, painful admission.]

...Heh. You're letting this place get to you. Nothing is set in stone in this place.

Everyone will leave at some point, perhaps tomorrow, or maybe in another year or so. If anything, having us all leave at once would mean we don't have to keep wondering when our time is up.

I know. [It's one of the reasons she's decided to at least try to find a way out, even if she doesn't end up taking it.] But from another angle, you could also say that in the real world everyone dies eventually, so it doesn't matter if you kill them a little ahead of time.

[She waits a long time before seeing Nami. She has the feeling the older woman would like to be alone. Though nakama are never very alone for long. She's learned this, or maybe re-learned this and how frustrating not to know from the beginning.

Still at some point in the day you may see Robin coming out, holding a tray with two cups of cocoa and a blanket following behind her on little Robin feet.]

Um...hello, Nami-san. I bought something for you.

[It's a long way to come with that cocoa, but Nami doesn't really mind. Actually, she's just glancing down at the blanket and breaking into a small grin because... that's really kind of adorable. She certainly appreciates it.]

Well, thank you. Cocoa too, huh? [She'll just jump down from the roof now.]
