CHARACTER:
Name: Alfred F. Jones or The United States of America.
Source: Axis Powers Hetalia
History: America, as he would come to be known, was discovered by Finland and Sweden on vacation. Afraid of the strangers, America hid from them, and from the many others who would come to see him. The other nations, eager to have such a cute child looking up to them (In much the same way Northern Italy looked up to Austria), began to fight over who would get to claim the baby America. In the end America himself chose England to be his big brother, despite the older nation having little to offer him in culture compared to other nations. He only had himself to offer, and in the end, it was all America wanted.
In his childhood, England was often off at war, fighting a very long ways away. He would make as much time as he could to see America, and offering him gifts out of affection, like an army he could use to play and learn with. And learn he did. America grew up very quickly for a nation, soon becoming a colony that England could show off, and was often proud of. Unfortunately with growing up, children want to be given more freedoms and want to be treated as peers, not as dependants. England wasn't ready to give America what he wanted, and being the headstrong child that he was, he was determined to take it from England by force. So he revolted, taking his gun and aiming at England and his troops. England, in return, ultimately would not defeat America, because he understood that if he denied America his freedom, he would die. So, broken-hearted, he left for his own home.
America meanwhile, had barely won the war. With no real allies yet, he would stay quiet for fifty years, scarcely interacting with anyone save for a disasterous fight with his French-mentored brother Canada, and beating Mexico, taking (her) glasses in victory.
Well, and he needs them to see. Kind of.
He would venture out into the world finally on the request of his boss to make friends with Japan so America could profit from whaling rights. This at first led America to believe he had to make friends with the whales themselves. This is because he is not very bright. He finally gets to Japan, and through persistently not leaving Japan's house, he forced Japan to come out of hiding and stop being a crazy shut-in, and becomes his first "foreign" friend. America's rapid industrialization and frenetic energy in turn inspires Japan to follow in his footsteps, allowing the isolated island nation to overthrow the great Chinese empire in a few short years.
****
The events of the first world war go largely by America, and he only joins in the fight at the end, when all of his allies were worn and exhausted, returning home like the great big hero, content to rest upon his laurels of victory. After the war, Lithuania has so many people leave his house that he too, goes and joins America in his house for a time, where he works as America's housekeeper, and in turn, enjoys greater comfort than most of his neighbors like poor, near-dead Poland.
America, and as a result, the rest of the world, fall victim to his exuberance when after the war, he began to produce more goods than he could sell. Having paid for the materials to make these goods on credit, he went bankrupt, causing a chain reaction in which all of the other nations grew ill as well with an exception of communist Russia, who gladly took advantage of America's weakness by stealing Lithuania back away again.
When the rest of the world went to war again, America once again sat out for the first battles, too weakened by his poor economy to be able to go and fight. He was eventually forced into war when his old friend, Japan came to his house and attacked him, spurring him with new energy to defeat the Axis powers, and quickly taking the forefront of the battle for his once-again battle weary companions.

Personality: America is much like a stereotypical American, if the stereotype could be made into a viable, likable character. He is brash, loud, and energetic. He's always moving and talking, and at a constant pitch of activity. He can never ever be still. Or only do one thing at a time. He is always multi-tasking, if perhaps poorly. As a result of this whirlwind, he tends to overlook things and make snap judgments, and stick by his decisions even if proven wrong later. This is also furthered by his belief in moral absolutism, and that he is the Hero in everything that he does. If he's doing it, he's doing it because he want to, and it's the right thing (Which is why he wants to do it.) An honest person, he gives others a fair deal, and expects one in return.
Also enamored with things that are new, he is a tech-freak, always trying to get or make the newest stuff. Sometimes, they're good, useful, or interesting things. A lot of times, they're just... godawful. In either case, his dreams are big, grand, and more than a little unconventional. Because if you're going to change anything, you've got to be a little bit different.

Biggest Fear: Ghosts. This might look like an ironic joke answer, but no. He's absolutely terrified of ghosts.
He's also afraid of something that he's involved in doing failing. He's the hero. He should be able to protect people. If he can't, then... what good is he?

Powers: America is effectively immortal, being partly constructed from the will of the people who live in his land or "house". As long as people believe in him, he will endure. For Jigoku, for obvious reasons, I don't think that will be a power he takes with him, as it is irrelevent.

His only other real power is his super strength. He can enact amazing feats, and tends to do it innocently, not really realizing that what he's doing is amazing. It's just... what he does. So what if he can drag a jeep around like a training weight? It's just his thing.

SAMPLES:
Third Person: "Man, this is scary."
America looked around warily down the hallway. It looked like it was out of that movie he watched the other day! That movie did not end well for anybody.
Well... he was the hero, and there was no cause for alarm... yet. It was okay that he woke up and he didn't remember how he got here. It was okay that someone forgot their redhots in his mouth... though it wasn't like he could give them back now. It was okay that there was this weird thing on the desk that looked like it was from an alien spaceship. It was probably a present! From... A secret admirer!
Not even believing that weak rationale himself, he stalked down the hallway quietly, holding out his pistol ahead of him, ready to fire. By the time he got to the end of the hall, there was a girl. She hadn't been there before, he could swear... but there she was, watching him, or maybe just the floor. Her face was hidden behind a curtain of black hair.
"Hey there, little lady... how are...?"
The question died off in his throat. This girl was several kinds of wrong, he could tell even before she finally looked up at him, the bottom half of her face just... gone. Her tongue flopped around her throat uselessly, dripping saliva all over the floor.
He didn't even hear her scream over the sound of his own, as he turned tail and ran down the hallway like a rabbit, already back in the safety of his strange room before she had even taken three steps.
First Person:
Video
[The feed turns on and treats the viewer to the side of a young man's face, his eye obscured by the reflection on his glasses.]

Rec? Does that mean record? How cool is that! And how tiny!

[He peers into the lens, blue eye darkening the feed for a moment before he pulls it back.]

H-hello, world! I am Alfred F. Jones! My hobbies are quick-draw, archeology, and adventures!

[he pauses.]

This probably belongs to somebody, doesn't it... Maybe I shouldn't have just picked it up like that, but...

[he makes a show of looking around.]

It's just me here... I'll keep it safe until I can find the owner.

[he puts it into his pocket without turning it off. There is darkness, and the rustling of fabric until the feed times out.]

Notes:

****I deliberately skipped the American Civil War, because I have no idea how the fuck APH would describe it happening. I know that there are, like "state-tans," which are personas of provinces (Japan has some.) But he also refers to his clothing as states, too. So I don't know what the fuck. Maybe his clothing caught fire for five years.
