The sun is bright and the ocean is blue. In the middle of this broad ocean lies a fishing boat where a single man cast his line. This man was dark skinned with lightly dyed hair. By trade he was a lawyer, the best Japan had ever seen, but now that he was on the sea he was a fisherman. Just a fisherman. Nothing more.
Knowing that he wouldn’t get any bites for a while he sat down on his stool allowing him to stare endlessly into the sea. The blue waves effortlessly crashed into the boat. All was calm.
A cry of help broke the peace just as he was nodding off to his little dream land. A young man was caught in the endless expanse of water. His flailing arms sent ripples through out the sea as he moved closer to the boat.
The fisherman stood up and made his way over to the edge of the boat where he reached out his hand and pulled the man aboard. The hamburger hands latched on to the the long fingers of the fisherman. His hands felt secure.
The young man the fisherman had pulled aboard was clothed in a full suit. The fabric stuck to his skinny limbs, exposing his malnourished physique. His black hair dried quickly in the sun as the fisherman went inside the cabin to look for some fresh clothes that will fit him. He grabbed a pair of cargo shorts and a worn out white tee shirt. As he returned outside the young man had already began to undress himself.
He draped the soaked clothing over the railing of the boat. He didn't care if they fell over board and were swept into the sea. Those clothes were meaningless to him now. The memories associated with them were meaningless.
"I think these will fit." He threw the clothes towards the shirtless man. "Ohno Satoshi."
"Huh?" The young man looked up at Ohno only to see two brown eyes staring down at him.
"My name."
"Oh," The young man slipped the tee shirt over his head. "I'm Ninomiya Kazunari. Just call me Nino."
Silence encompassed the two men. Ohno went back inside the cabin again to get Nino a towel. When he came back out side Nino's pants hung around his ankles. Ohno threw the towel at him and turned his back, cheeks flushed. Judging by his face, Ohno assumed that Nino was around seventeen, still a minor. It would be morally wrong for someone Ohno's age to even be looking at a minor.
"Thanks for the clothes Ohno-san." Ohno turned back around to see that Nino was now dressed. The shirt was a bit loose and and the shorts were a little too short but they were in the middle of the ocean. No one could see him. No one would care.
"Ah!" Nino grabbed onto the shoulders of the older man. "You're Ohno Satoshi, that famous lawyer.” He pushed his face forwards into Ohno’s face. “Right?”
“I was,” With an awkward push Ohno struggled out of Nino’s grip. “But now the sea is my home.”
The fishing rod at the bow of the boat started to bend towards the water. The line grew taut, causing a bell that was attached to the line to ring. The fisherman in Ohno knew the sound and fled to the scene. He began his battle with the mighty fish. With all of the strength in his small body he took turns with pulling the rod and reeling in the line in till he could see the fin of a salmon break the surface.
“Ninomiya-san-”
“-Call me Nino.”
“Nino-san, the net!” Ohno pointed at the exterior wall of the cabin frantically. Nino ran to the net. In one magnificent movement he tossed the net over his shoulder to the hand of the fisherman. The fish was scooped into the net and the ocean was calm once again.
"I hope you don't mind that we'll be eating salmon for the next few days." Ohno spoke without glancing at Nino at all. He cut the line off of the hook and placed the salmon in an open cooler nearby. He closed the lid of the container and turned to see Nino's horrified face.
"Wait," Nino slowly broke down to his knees. His head between his hands in disbelief. "Next few days? You aren't on some one day fishing trip? When are you going back to land?"
"I have no plans to return to shore." Ohno showed a face of pride. He needed to stay in the ocean. He could not return to shore. Nino, on the other hand, was panicked. There was no way to get off the boat except for the way he came.
"Let me show you around the boat." Ohno re-baited his line and cast it out into the water. He grabbed Nino by the hand and led him inside the cabin. The gentle hand caught him by surprise. Nino allowed himself to be dragged into the room.
The interior was quite humble in nature. Nothing fancy, just the basics. It consisted of two stories. The upper level was the captain's wheel but below that was the living quarters. Half of the room was for eating and the other half was for sleeping with a bathroom rammed in the corner somewhere. Even though Ohno was the only one living on the boat there was two beds. This intrigued Nino to a certain degree but he reasoned to be that the boat came that way.
“You can take this bed.” Ohno pointed over to the unoccupied bed opposite of his own. “All I ask is that you help with some of the cleaning around here and some other odd jobs that show up.” It suddenly hit Nino that he couldn’t leave the boat and that he would now have to start living with a man he only met less than an hour ago for who knows how long. This Ohno guy could be a murder for all he knows.
Ohno started to walk away, caught in his own little world. “Ohno-san,” He turned around to see Nino. “Are you sure that there isn’t anyway to get me back to shore?” The fisherman thought for a while and scratched the back of his neck before replying.
“There’s no way that I’m going back to shore but I do have a friend that will take you back to Japan.” Nino’s eyes lit up at the news. Ohno adverted his gaze. He was happy to finally have a companion after all of this time alone but all the other wanted was to leave. Soon he would be alone again. He didn't want that but he didn't want to keep Nino here against his will. They barely knew each other, Ohno knew that he had no right to ask Nino to stay. He just wanted a companion.
“Do you know how to clean a fish?” Nino nodded his head and was given an army knife that hung off of Ohno’s belt. “Can you do it for me? I got to see if I can get a hold of my friend.”
“Sure.” And with that Nino happily ran up to the deck to gut the fish. Ohno climbed up to the the captain's quarters and turned on his radio. He didn't want to do this. He just wanted to trap Nino here on his boat where no one could find him just so he could have a friend.
Ohno realized how selfish he was acting and tuned into the right frequency. He at least wanted to be a nice host while he had a guest aboard. He pressed down on the button on the side of the receiver. He hesitated before he spoke.
“Aiba-chan, can you do me a favor?”
A/N: GAHHHH. This is so scattered but I swear that the story is moving. Here's a gif to make up for it.
But I also have a question for those of you that bothered to read all the way down here. Which actress would you pair with Sho? She's going to show up in the next chapter.
