Some interesting developments in my quest to find a shoe that fits. I had the opportunity to try a narrow women's shoe. It turns out the width was about right for me. Jokes aside, I'm glad you found something that may work, and hope that it will indeed do so.

As for vacations, have you considered Las Vegas? I think it's fairly traditional to not take a car there, so I'd expect the city to be designed to accomodate that. I hear they even have a monorail! (It flies as softly as a cloud!)

A guy I knew in Oregon (near Portland) also told me that the state's generally very bike-friendly, so perhaps you can find a nice place to visit there that might even have a rental bike system. These might also exist in other cities, BTW - worth checking!

And then there's Hawaii, which I'm sure is well-adapted to being explored sans cars.

Interesting situation on the shoe size - hope you can find something appropriate. It's weird that we live in the 21st century and companies/countries still can't standardize on shoe sizes, let alone finding ways to adjust width in an appropriate way.
