As to links with Combat18 I stress this is hearsay, I do not know for sure, but having said this I have little if any reason to doubt the person who alledged this, the person is someone who I have ofund to be generally very credible. I have refer to it as cert18 for some time specifically not to refer to it as C18...

I remember being really surprised they'd named the pub C18 in the first place but clearly someone was having a very sick joke. And the irony of them taking over the only gay pub in town. Not planning to set foot there again.

Well I am slightly neonaziphobic, although I do try to model tolerance I am reminded of the Manic song 'If you tolerate this' and the quote below...Dialogue , interaction, mediation and active engagment is I think the best strategy that and using the ballot box as I hope the pen is indeed mighter than the sword!

First they came for the Communists, and I didn’t speak up, because I wasn’t a Communist.
Then they came for the sick, the so-called incurables, and I didn't speak up, because I wasn't mentally ill.
Then they came for the Jews, and I didn’t speak up, because I wasn’t a Jew.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant.
Then they came for me, and by that time there was no one left to speak up for me.

If someone has beliefs that others consider unpleasant, but they don't let it spill over into the way they treat others, is that still bad? If someone in favour of the KKK believes strongly in white supremacism and owns a pub, but doesn't let his personal beliefs spill over into his working life, lets people of other races come in and treats them the same professionally, is that still bad and a place to be avoided?

Not really thinking about Cert 18 now, just pondering.

I might not agree with you and indeed I may believe you to be wrong but i will defend your right to be wrong...As to avoiding those we disagree with, in a liberal democracy (if indeed we still live in one and Gordon seems somewhat better than Tony ATM) we vote with our feet and our wallets...However in answer to your query if people do not engage with those with whom they disgree than how can anyones beliefs, actions, thoughts be challenged and people reconsider their positions...the unexamined life and the unchallenged beliefs will usually be shallow but with interaction we gain a more complex understanding, maturity therefore I would err towards engagement rather than embargo...just my pondering and I know I am not the thought police!
