Thanks Heidi! Hey, I see on your blog you're an adjunct at Seton Hill. Congrats!

Working on a fantasy novel at the moment -- using an alternate history that bears little to no correlation to real history (I believe if you change one thing in the past, everything that follows could be completely rewritten). One of the key concepts is that magic exists and the Crusades never happened, but there's still plenty of potential for conflict. :)

That and I'm also working on some horror. A short for now, but who knows what will come of it.

I like how you combined the rules under different scenarios. The last is the best. "Give them something to do" can take so many forms. Being creative is what the job's all about, so we have to give ourselves the liberty to get creative, even after the writing is done.

Thanks for a lovely post.

Am I smoking something? I could have swore you put this up a long time ago.

Please tell me I am not crazy.

No, you're not crazy. This is a repost, post-dated so it'll stay on top of the blog. There's been a recent spate of Nitwittery about writing on the interwebs, so I felt it necessary to tack this up and leave it as visible as possible.

---suggested by my dear friend Melanie: I enjoy the succinct advice that does not wander into "what-ifs." The advice is to the point and while I am a researcher rather than a writer, your suggestions apply to us all. Kay Campbell
