Wow, thanks for the kind words, Mike! I'm always pleased whenever a reader gets mileage out of something I wrote. :)

The thing is, though, I don't feel I can take credit for this concept. I don't recall who said it first, but I recall reading an article in the mid-late 90s where a game designer -- it might have been Greg Stolze or Robin Laws or any one of similar luminaries -- who posited that adventurers are not smart, because smart people would stay at home where it is safe.
