Just because "we do live in Canada where we celebrate Christmas." does not make it politcally correct--Different people celebrate different Holidays, which are also recogonized within Canada. Just thought I'd point that out. Happy Holidays!

think about this. im assuming you're not jewish. if someone were to come up to you and say "happy chanukah," would you be offended? personally i wouldn't. i would wish them a happy chanukah back. so saying merry christmas to people is the same thing.

Think about this...It happened to my friend Janna, who is Jewish and has two roomates..She goes home for a weekend in December, comes back, and her roomates have decorated her entire room with Christmas decorations. Wouldn't you feel a bit excluded? Different even? You took a religion course first term, did you not? Its not even about offending people-its about having the decency to realize that Christmas isn't the only thing that is celebrated.

And what about those who don't celebrate anything around this time of year? When someone says "Merry Christmas" to them--should they be obligated or even feel obligated to say it back even if its not what they believe in? Its about being sensitive, rather than ethnocentric.

i understand what you're saying, i just don't agree with your point of view. all im saying is that we're a country that celebrates christmas. yes we welcome in other religions other than christianity. they are welcome here. they are free to celebrate whatever holiday they want to. there are no restrictions on that. but we should still be able to celebrate our original holiday and maintain our cultural identity. face it...christmas is not about christianity anymore. im not christian and i celebrate christmas. its just become a national holiday in canada. we should be able allowed to celebrate it. if we keep restricting our celebrations, christmas will soon be out of the vocabulary ( ... )
