If you like rape and breastfeeding... Especially at the same time... This is your movie!

The rape scene is deeply distasteful. The rest of the movie is barely watchable and cheerlessly stupid. Huuuuuge disappointment.

If the first half had been sped up and the initial attack/rape/suckling had happened at the 30 minute mark and the last hour of the movie was the nerdy husband essentially becoming a sadistic monster worse than the Hillies in order to rescue his child (similar to the father from "Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance")...I would have appreciated it the same way I do a Miike film.

One thing that bugs me about the rape scene is that it's implied and therefore forces the viewer to imagine just how horrifying it would be to be raped not just by a lunatic, but by a semi-human lunatic serial rapist monster. And not one review I read before seeing the film mentioned the rape. Some of the people I saw the film with didn't quite get that she was raped - they only had this discomfort with the violent frottage actually shown in the scene. But her reaction after is so clearly that of a rape victim. It's just all 'round awful.

I have mixed feelings about the graphic horrors the Miike showcases. He, however, tends to be explicit with his nighmare images. That's much easier for me to tolerate and then put aside.

I learned of the breastfeeding/rape scene on a mssg board where we were discussing horror movies. Someone had mentioned that they were really uncomfortable with violence towards children. Specifically the zombie baby in the "Dawn of the Dead" remake...it apparently ruined the movie for the guy...Regardless that a zombie baby is not a child, it's a monster, so I don't get what that gaybo's problem was. For me, the zombie baby is almost my favorite aspect of the new DotD, second only to the opening credits with Cash's 'When the Man Comes Around'... but anyway back on topic. I mentioned that the only frightening, or rather, even remotely pulse quickening part of "Saw" was when the killer's patsy is pointing a gun at the little girls head. Someone then mentioned the breastfeeding/rape scene in the new "Hills Have" Eyes as just being 'too much' for him. So in my mind the scene that played out before I even saw the movie was worse then what was actually in the movie, not only was a woman being raped by some hillbilly mutant... but she's ( ... )

The lesson I've taken from this is... if you want new people to read your blog... mention Rape AND breastfeeding.... Plain old rape ain't gonna do it.
