just an fyi, if you're wanting to be so correct. "con-see-airzh" should probably be con-see-airdj. the last sound is an affricate comprised of a simultaneous voicing of a "d" and a "j".

with 1. you are making a faulty assumption that written and spoken language always match. spoken language is arbitrary and there are many differences in spoken language around the country that do not completely match up with written language. I could list hundreds of situations where the Texas dialect does not match. there are some areas where similar is pronounced in such a way. this does not mean it is wrong. it is just a different dialect that what you accept. it does not mean the person is any less educated than you.

Linguists would disagree on both counts.

Words are intended to be pronounced in certain ways, otherwise we could see the word 'cat' and pronounce it 'coat' and everyone would be seriously confused. There is a difference between dialectical differences (for instance, the word schedule which is pronounced skedyule in American English but shedyule in British English) and just mispronouncing a word. Saying that similar may be pronounced 'sim-you-lure' is like saying that 'irregardless' is a word.

FYI - concierge isn't actually an affricate. It's a fricative. A z-voiced alveo-palatal fricative.
